Hmmmm, 8/10 for a handheld Mario game must mean it is fairly bad.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Its true.
NSMBW is a cynical patronizing depreciation of the greatness that was Galaxy 1 and 2.
“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
Like others have said an 8 from Edge is pretty good.

“Super Mario 3D Land is a magpie of a game, but it fuses its 2D and 3D influences to make a Mario that feels fresher than an handheld Mario in years. It’s not a new Galaxy, but it’s an ideal companion piece to EAD Tokyo’s Wii games. Whereas they pushed up against the edge of the universe to show us what an unfettered Mario can do, Super Mario 3D Land does the opposite. It homes in, with a clockmaster’s precision and a playful gleam in its eye, on what Mario does best.
“But there’s a joyousness here that wins out, a simple delight in the basics of running, jumping, collecting coins and bouncing into the air that leaves these mild disappointments behind, and a creative blending of Marios past and present that makes the unabashed retread that was New Super Mario Bros appear almost cynical.”
Why are you people complaining? That's as high as praise gets. Scores don't matter in the face of text like that.

Hmm, I'm sure people who don't like to read, skip down and look at the score. How sad, because a review score reflects personal and biased opinion. Just because Ga;axy 1 for exmaple is a 10 for a reviewer, may not make that score absolute or genuine. But I do believe that reviewers scores don't really reflect their written reviews. How sad. 8/10 IS very questionable to me even though I haven't played the game because we have some of the team behind the Galaxy game produce 3D Land.
NINTENDO
nintendo forever . . .

Well i was thinking first: " Only an 8?!".. But i read the review and fair enough. It's a good review so I'll wait for others to balance out the opinion. But from what I've read so far, it's not the greatest Mario game out there... really SMG 1 and 2 have set a really high standard for 3D Mario platformers which is why they it will pale in comparison
Update with famitsu scores. They gave it the same score as mario galaxy I believe.
