Forums - Sony - The expensive new Sony memory is not optional after all

Wow. Worst part is you have to buy one of those horribly overpriced memory cards. Is sony just being greedy or are they trying to cut down on piracy? How will I move my movies and music to it? Does it have an sd card slot? If yes, then why not allow us to use that? Is sony being greedy or are they trying to cut down on piracy?

They are trying to offer their system at 249$ without suffering losses.

Fortunately, Vita is optional.

No, its not. Vita games only play on Vita. You can't play them on your PSP/PS3 or DS/3DS.

Most Vita games are on at least one of those platforms, so you're wrong.

Some not most.

That's pretty moronic, Sony should have a set space reserved for saves, and every game should adher to having that limit... It's so easy Sony, why cock it up?!

@Iceyedge
Then why not just have an sd card slot and screw this new memory format? Would have been so much simpler unless they did this to make piracy harder to accomplish seeing as any competant person could put files and pirated games on an sd card. I would have been fine with this if sony didn't rape my wallet with absurd prices for expandable media. Reminds me of stick duo but useless and this time necessary. :(
Actually, before I call this new format useless, are there any converters to computers so I can put movies and music on it? If not, how can I move this stuff over to it? It would be pretty pathetic if sony had no way of doing this. And if they allowed this, then what would stop people from doing the same as they would with sd cards? I am so confused and angry about this. Maybe I am angry because I am confused. Or the other way around.... :(

There will be adapters, probably. I don't think this is for combating piracy.

But if this is the case, then most likely the way to transfer files to Vita is by connecting the machine via USB.

Same answer. Its because of the profit on their proprietary card that they are able to offer the system at 249$. Not that I defend the move, its just a conclusion. The market prefer it that way so its a "good move", commercially speaking.

I have the feeling that even though Sony will sell Vita at a loss, they are making sure that they make a good chunk of money on cards, the 3G, etc.

So they follow the MS strategy of having a cheap base console with expensive extras.

Wow, looks like you really will NEED a memory card.

Required Peripherals
Famitsu says that a Memory Card is pretty much a requirement, as some games will require the card. Games that require a card can't even be booted up if you don't have one.

Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

This is dumb.
