i remember when i was like eight playing Zelda and Mario i probably haven't touched either series sense then. its been PS2 and Xbox 360 for the past ten or so years.

The score doesn't surprise me. Anyone that knows the quality of any Zelda game also knows what to expect from each new entry = quality, amazing story and gameplay and an instant classic.

I'm more baffled at the comments of some members here. So just because an official nintendo magazine, that is proven to rate first party games more harshly than non-Nintendo games, gives Skyward Sword, that's laughable? How about the plethora of official playstation magazines that will give an outstanding score to Uncharted 3? Are those scores laughable too? Or Xbox magazines that gave Gears 3 outstanding scores?. That's probably the weakest argument anyone can ever produce and shows the immaturity of some members.

Anyway, just waiting for this amazing game to come out. Already got my Limited Edition pre-ordered, that sweet gold triforce Wiimote is too good to pass up!

So this means what? Game of the Year is a 5-horse race?

Portal 2 = 93-95 Score
Arkham City = 94-96 score
Skyrim - 92-95 score (predicted)
Uncharted 3 - 93-95 score (predicted)
Skyward Sword - 92-95 score (predicted)

Seriously, has a winter season ever been THIS good?

This is going to be a really good end of the year stretch! Plus we still have a bunch of games to go still. If we count handheld games this  good reach past 10 great games  for the year. I am talking about Mario Kart 7. COD, Battlefield 3, etc.

I don't see Mario Kart, Call of Duty, or Battlefield getting GOTY noms.  I could maybe seeMario 3Dland getting a portable game of the year award, but thats it.

Modern warfare 3 will be very good, but I honestly doubt it'll be game of the year, perhaps 91-93 score.

Battlefield 3 will be great, but since it lacks the notereity of Call of Duty, its scores will be higher in spite of likely being the better game.  I see 88-91 on that one.

MarioKart is good, but Mariokart Wii got only 80.  I could see this being 86-89.

I'm still sure it'll be a 5-person race, with either Arkham City or Uncharted 3 taking it home.  also:  I own portal 2 and Arkham city, and have already pre-ordered Skyrim and Uncharted 3.  I'm set, bitches! Not interested in Zelda if for no other reason than the fact that I need to buy a 50 dollar controller just to play it.  Eff that.  plus my girlfriend has my Wii and she's a state over for school :P

My Console Library:

PS5, Switch, XSX

PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, WiiU, Wii, GCN, N64 SNES, XBO, 360

Or you could buy the Special Edition, which already has a controller, for less than a new PS3 or Xbox360 game costs. So no, you don't need to buy a 50 dollar controller for it.

Just for the sake of the Hype...

(As a goshipp stone) "They say EDGE is going to give it a 10, and chances are that it will be announced tomorrow at night..."

Just what 'they say'...

Overall the year hasn't been the greatest compared to last couple of years, but the winter season is by far the greatest.

very good score. official reviews arent the best to judge but 98% is very encouraging, if it got 91% for example id be worried.

time to see what edge, gamespot etc say about it.

will it be marked down for subpar graphics? being motion control heavy? lack of speech? these are issues i can see some multiformat journalists complaining about.

time shall tell but this review shows there is definitely hope that the wii could be going out with a hell of a bang

Details of the review (surprisingly spoiler free ):

You can find the information after the break.

- Hasn’t fallen short on its promises
- Constantly surprising adventure
- Progresses at breakneck pace
- Unexpected and original locations
- Breathtaking, inspiring vistas
- Charming, funny, and memorable characters
- “an absolute masterpiece from start to finish, entirely deserving of our gushing praise and unbridled hyperbole, and a contender for the crown of best game on Wii.”
- Most enemies require a degree of forethought before attacking
- Catching bugs more difficult than you think
- Wildly flailing the net will scare the bugs away, so you’ll need to time your movements carefully
- “Some old items make a reappearance, such as your slingshot and bow, though by the game’s close your inventory will be largely made up of strange and funky new gadgets.”
- Game races from new location to new location
- You’ll get showered with new toys that use MotionPlus in interesting ways before throwing you into situations in which they’re mixed up with old mechanics you thought you’d mastered in previous areas in the game, creating new puzzles and challenges
- Some locations “are utterly un-Zelda like”
- The game “tirelessly works to surprise you, and it never fails to do just that”
- It seems that the dungeons are shorter than normal (can’t confirm this yet)
- Game looks the most impressive while you’re riding your Loftwing, “with the full brunt of the game’s painterly, impressionist art style stretching out from the warm, pinkish, bubbling clouds below to the daubed, dark green hues of distant sky islands. It’s an animated, flowing watercolor, the effect both cleverly masking the limitations of the Wii’s draw distance while simultaneously and effortlessly pleasing the eyeballs.”
- One of the best-looking Wii games
- Can upgrade the dowsing ability so that it’ll lead you towards hearts, treasures, and more
- Fi is non-intrusive
- Fi’s hints are craftily worded so that you’ll still have to come up with answers on your own
- ONM describes Fi as “a charming character”, “vastly intelligent, calculating, verbose and incongruosly ‘digital’ sounding.”
- The game’s inhabitants “give Skyward Sword’s world real flavor and texture.”
- Plot itself is straightforward
- Skyward Sword has a lot of heart, brains
- The game features an intelligent and captivating adventure that will always maintain your attention
- “Skyward Sword stands as an ode to a series that has endured all of recent gaming history. It marks the dizzying pinnacle of both the Zelda series and motion-controlled gaming itself. It’s a huge accomplishment that, even by Nintendo’s own record, stands out as one of their finest.”
- Second opinion: “You can tell Nintendo have spent many years honing this to near-perfection. More than worth the wait”
