I wonder if the guy 'cheated' somehow.

Anyone have an opinion?

no no, i mean i haven't beaten dark souls yet but it is the same general idea as demon's souls.  the game itself is really short, what makes it take a long time (first play through) is learning enemy locations/attacks/weaknesses.  once you learn how to play the game, things can progress quite quickly.  my first demon's souls playthough was like 60 hours.  my next one was under 10 -- and i wasn't going for a speed run.

That's still a long way away from 1.5 hours!

But I get you.

Yeah, each subsequent playthrough gets shorter and shorter. My NG+++ on Demon's Souls was about 3-4 hours, since it was just a matter of going through the levels and killing everything on sight (at that time my character was very OP too, everything went down quite fast).

On Dark Souls, it's even faster because of it's open world nature. Once you know every shortcut, you can take a trip from almost every place in the map in a couple of minutes.

yeah that's what i'm figuring out ... i should have taken that damn master key.  the friend i'm "playing with" keeps bragging about it.  i just have to keep telling myself -- this damn witch's ring has a use right, right?!?   i'm just really glad i didn't take the binoculars lol.

You wanna hear the truth, or do you want to continue to think it has a use?

no i don't actually -- i'll plat dark souls and i know i'll have to go to a wiki site or whatever to learn every detail of the game but i'm being very careful to avoid any spoilers this first play though.  the figuring it out part is a lot of why i like it.  xD

also, now that i re-read your post two back ... that description of dark sould reminds me very much of how i describe super metroid; can skip bosses or take bosses in different orders as long as you know the right tricks.   i knew there was a reason i'm loving it so much!

Hope you find out then, it was a very interesting find for me (and made me feel sorry for a NPC too).

The structure of the open world in Dark Souls is very similar to Super Metroid (and any other Metroidvania games, like SOTN) which is also a reason why i'm loving this game a lot too. You can go literally anywhere in the game, right from the start, just don't expect to survive much longer if you don't have the necessary items/equipment XD. I'm pondering creating a new character just to take different routes instead of the usual route if you don't have the master key (going for the underground bell instead of the gargoyles first).

i must likely will, i'm playing in a completionist mannor right now trying to overturn every stone the game has to offer.  so as long as i can't do anything screw it up i ought to find it.  i killed the guy in the gold armor in the undead parish already.  didn't trust that guy, but i got a ring of favor and protection!!

Hate to tell you this, but you missed on an event line with him. I don't know now if you'll be able to get his armour later on in the game if you kill him in any other manner than the event line.

I saw some of it and it is amazing. He gets the Drake Sword from the Hellkite Dragon on the bridge by actually cutting its tail off, instead of using arrows like I assume most do.

Yeah, that method is much faster since it only take a few swings to cut his tail.

Some people even try to use crossbows to cut it's tail (raises hand).

This is the original one. I thought it was the Souls game that just came out at first. Still that is pretty good. I hope that was not his first run! 1.5 hours is not worth it for 50 dollars! Those water effects in that first area he went through in the well was great! I only play wii mostly so these types of things excite me!

Well you haven't *ahem* ''played any game for longer than 30 mins this year''.

I don't think I'll forget that statement you made. It's a little insane to me that you're posting for hours and hours on a gaming site but you've hardly played at all in recent memory.

It's just strange.

Very strange.

I mean, if you had been gaming at all this last year you would know that no-one records their first playthrough. Also, EVERYONE knows that's not possible with Dark Souls. Then you go on to question the value of the game.

Then you mention the water effects and try and squeeze in a joke.

Do you need help?

Mother of God..o_O,
