I must say pezus and thismential, you both seem very defensive over Sony being ahead as of now, like you don't want anyone to have an opinion other than 'fuck yeah SONY'

Lol, seems more like you and a few others don't like the fact that the PS3 came out on top.  So you have to come up with hypotheticals or talk about statistical ties.  I think you guys are going to like it even less if there are adjustments.

I havn't used the statistical tie crap because it annoys, I won't use it whatever way it swings in the end.

It's hilarious you proclaim PS3 has won and we should all accept it, then talk about adjustments, as if they could only possibly benefit the PS3. Make your mind up.

What's it like up there in lala land?

My point still stands, you and pexus can't hack anything other than the overly positive and ' Sony HAS won' posts. I have no idea if there will be adjustments or not, or which way they'll go, so I'm not saying anything is under or overtracked, but they do happen ...

Didn't say you specifically used statistical ties, but others who can't take the results have.  Or "moral victory" as Kowen put it.  My point about adjustments is that the PS3 has already won without adjustments.  If people don't like it, and hence are talking about statistical ties and these hypotheticals trying to belittle the PS3's success this, they are going to be even more upset when any possible adjustments come in.

Again, assuming best case scenario for PS3. You're chastising people for not accepting PS3 has 'won' yet talk about them not liking any further adjustments. Not sure how you expect people to take you seriously.

Regardless of how it ends up (because we're far from predicting a winner being so close, whether you force it on us or not. The fact it has ende dup so close is bound to have many post the way they are in regards to ties and what it took for both to get where they are today.

I don't wanna come across like you think they are, if the PS3 has won then gratz, I'll update the title and OP announcing PS3 has won and put my thoughts on the conclusion in here, but you're acting ridiculous.

This Sony not marketing as much as Microsoft excuse has to stop.

I think you've been here long enough to know how adjustments normally go here.  Not that its VGC's fault, but EMEAA just happens to be the hardest to track territory, and just so happens to be the territory the PS3 is normally undertracked in.  Even in an easier territory, the US, it was undertracked over 100K last month.  But those will come later, if they do at all, so I'm not trying to really harp on that.

The point is, even without adjustments, the PS3 has already won by at least 200K(best case for the 360 and it outsells the PS3 a little next week) to 230K.  Many have obviously excepted this already because they are going into threads, like this one, and coming up with excuses as to why this isn't really a win for the PS3.  Whether its some hypotheticals about how the 360 could have won, talking about no 360 price cut (acting like the 2 months of $100 giftcards in its largest market did little to boost it) or how its just a statistical tie (of course, if it were the 360 winning by just 200K they'd giving praises aplenty).  While it is kinda annoying, I have to admit, it's also quite amusing.

In the US I guess it counts, not just lack of marketing but poor marketing as well, or just generally going for the wrong audience. In the UK though, there have been tonnes of Playstation adverts recently, especially for games.

MS answer to the Sony cut was mass bundles, mass $100 giftcards all over the US and mass advertising with Kinect.

You act like Sony got no bundles, and it didn't have 'mass $100 giftcards', a lot more than PS3 but not a mass amount. PS3 has been advertised way more in the UK than 360 and Kinect have. Whilst the X360 may have had more advertising in the US, remember US /= The World Carl.

It almost worked. They put up a great fight, just like last Year, but it still wasnt enough (pre adjustments), to beat the PS3 for the Year.

Last Year they had Move and GT5 to fight against Halo, Fable, Kinect and "$500 million".

And PS3 had no $$$ spent on advertising of course .. are you ignoring all the other exclusives PS3 had in 2010 0_0

This Year they had a $50 cut and Uncharted 3 to fight against Forza, Gears, Kinect and mass $100 giftcard bundles.

Again, forgetting all the other PS3 exclusives ... and a $50 cut WW for 5 months Vs some $100 giftcard bundles in the US

Add in that the 360 has had exclusive advertising on the 2 biggest games of the Holidays in MW3 and Skyrim... You cant watch a TV channel without seeing a 360 advert at least once

Depends on how you look at the word "mass". It recieved more than any other console. A whole lot more. It had more deals with giftcards over the Holidays than any other console.

I was talking about the Holidays, quite obviously, but if you want to go into 2010 "exclusives" that were actually meaningful...

PS3 Exclusives - God of War 3, MAG, Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo 5, ModNation Racers, Sports Champions.
Game not on 360 - EyePet,

vs.

X360 Exclusives - Halo Reach, Fable 3, Crackdown 2, Kinect Adventures, Kinect Sports, Kinectimals, Dance Central.
Games not on PS3 - Splinter Cell Conviction, Mass Effect 2

Software lineups were fairly even in 2010 when you actually take time to look up what was released. 2011 is as we know, a totally different story.

Didn't the 360 also have that laptop deal in 2011 too? Along with all those giftcards?

All this is pointless really. Not really sure why I even brought up these "excuses". Whoever wins, wins. Simple as that.

That's all well and good Carl, but you're STILL overlooking the fact that if MS had given away 500,000 Xboxes, they would have "won" 2011!

And if they had given away 1,000,000 Xboxes, they would have won even bigger!

The hilarious thing here is even if the final pre-corrected numbers showed that MS sold a single console more than SCE, NOBODY would even bother to bake up a list of hypothetical, useless reasons why the Xbox 360 didn't "win" in 2011.

Mass bundling, gift cards and buy a windows laptop/phone and get a 4gb xbox really helped M$ out alot this year, but not enough. Kinect 4GB bundle going for 199 versus entry level ps3 for 249....I wonder which console the parents will buy? Cheaper one wins incase you didn't know the answer

M$ definitely sold more 4GB consoles with Kinect than 250gb versions during the holiday season.

Why would they talk about reason why it didn't win, when it did win? That honour would go to Sony fans.

Carl is right on one thing at least, whoever wins, wins, and that's that. Doesn't mean people can't give their opinion on the whole situation though ..

Ham_burgeler has a point, sorry if you don't like that.

It's only fesible to compare things on an even keel, fact of the matter is PS3 had a price cut and 360 didn't, and you can harp on about gift cards all you like, most years this gen MS have shipped more elsewhere than they have in the US for Q4, and it had basically jack all elsewhere whilst PS3 had a cut. PS3 also had giftcards and deals on top of its price cut.

I don't think exclusives really matter much, don't think role reversal there would have made much difference.

So you'd say Kinect is not a factor but a price cut is?

I'm saying, Sony has an answer to Kinect, the Move. MS didn't respond to PS3 cut.

Huge marketing for Kinect and XB360 is a commercial move with effect on sales comparable to Sony's price cut and more exclusives released. The same effect reached with different means. We can't say they are the same, but their effects were the same, excellent sales.

Edit: and it can be said in a totally neutral way, like I just did.
