Forums - General - Have You Ever Had A Dream Where You Think You're Awake But You're Not...

The other night i had a very strange thing happen to me.

I had a dream that someone I cared for deeply was killed in a train crash. As time slowly passed i eventually realize that i was dreaming (Dont ask how i knew).

Anyways I kept trying to wake myself up in my dream by either trying to take my own life, or by trying to scare my way out of the dream by jumping out of something large/big. But each time I woke up out of my dream, I was waking up and yet another dream that was even more stranger and bizzare than my previous dream.

I Counted 3 Dreams i had in one single sleep that night. When i finally actually woke up for real, I was not sure if i was even awake. To be honest i thought i was either still dreaming or had been druged by someone/something. (I eventually realized i was actually awake though)

But what really scared me that day was when i checked the time on my alarm clock it said 6:11 pm 9/24/11 Eastern US Time. I beleive the time i started falling asleep was around 1:00-1:30 am 9/24/11 Eastern US Time. (I was watching alot of movies on HBO and Starz late that night)

If the time was right(Which i think it was). That means i had been asleep for almost 15 hours!!!

I usually know if i am having a dream (kinda hard to explain how i always know). But i never had 3 straight dreams in a row. I am kinda scared to go back asleep as i am not use to having a dream after a dream.

I know all of this kinda sounds like the great Christoper Nolan movie Inception. But this actually happened to me and i was kinda freaked out from it.

Have you ever had anytihng like this happen to you before. I would really hate to be the only guy in the world where this type of stuff only happens to me.  :(

i've had a lot of this kind of dreams

i actually like to know more about dreams and their effects, so i try to "experiment" on myself when i'm dreaming.
i've done it too much now that i can actually control my dreams, i can change things in my dream like manupilating people and objects and make the dream stop or go faster (yes it may seem weird, but a lot of people can do this, its a lucid dream) , which is why i loved the movie inception, i somehow felt badass about myself

By the way, another interesting research found out that Gamers are more likely to have lucid dreams than normal people , perhaps its because gamers are used to "Controlling" a dream world (game world) and can actually control their dreams.

Yay for inception-gamers

Yes i have been able to control most of my dreams for quite sometime also.

I have even learned how to actually stop some of my dreams in place and literally wake myself up by pausing the dream and make my mind somehow think its all a big joke.

Its all very difficult to explain and most of my friends think i am crazy when i tell them this type of stuff.

But that night was very scary since i kept having dream after dream and was unable to have any control of them.  :(

Happens alot. I hate them

i found out that this " A Dream within a dream" often happens when you actually know you are dreaming and want to force yourself to wake up, what happens is your mind think you are awake but you are actually sleeping, because you forced it to think so.

I Counted 3 Dreams i had in one single sleep that night. When i finally actually woke up for real, I was not sure if i was even awake. To be honest i thought i was either still dreaming or had been druged by someone/something. (I eventually realized i was actually awake though)

Continues dreams often accure when your mind still needs sleep and is still delved into your dream, one can actually wake up, move a bit around and then go back to sleep to "Continue" his/her dream, thought i personally tried drinking water when this happens, it seems water just make the brains wake up the most, not walking around (captain obvious moment)

lucid dreams often do that to you, make you go sleep more..

don't, its normal, some people get it, some dont

you know what is freaky thought? , dreaming of something that happens in real life before it actually happens, i've never knew how that happens but it happened to me a lot of times. =/ , but its not something like "oh so you'll know when you will die?" or "so you will know who will lose this match?", no , actually some strange but everyday stuff, like for example when i dream i saw a red ford mustang parking just infront of my work's office with a guy with blue striped shirt in it, so i forgot about the dream, and then went to my office, and surprise, i see the exact same scene right there, and in the exact same time, i then quickly wonder "Where did i see this before?" then i realize i saw it in my dreams, this kind of state is called "Deja Vu" or "Confirmation Effect" , yeah i still don't get how it happens...

hehe, thats one brutal technique  , what i do is close my eyes really hard and then open them really wide, thats the best trick i use for waking myself up , it helped me a lot in my highschool days when i didn't get much sleep for too much studying and being too nervous for exams.

I had that happen a lot of times back when I was first learning to lucid dream. Unless I do that, I don't remember my dreams, so it may still happen now but I wouldn't remember.

Yeah that has happened to me on more than one occasion.

One time I was dreaming of something, woke up to get a glass of water and when I fell back asleep my dream continued right where I left off. It was crazy.
