Forums - General - Have You Ever Had A Dream Where You Think You're Awake But You're Not...

Yeah but it was one of thoes ugly dreams. Its when I think Im awake but im still in my dream. my vision is very fuzzy and at the same time Im paralyzed. Im so desperately trying to wake up, but the paralysis just keeps getting worse. Sooner or later I wake up very uneasy afterwards.

I often remember my dreams, and write them down and have over a decade of journals on them. It's interesting to go back and read what you were dreaming about a long time ago.

However, I don't usually recognize that I am dreaming when I am dreaming. When I do I have to exercise great restraint or I will wake myself up. Similar to how when playing pinball, you can only tap a little, and it you do too much you tilt and it's game over. Or in this case, I wake myself up if try to change to much of my dream. (But still working on it.)

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Tell me a funny joke!

I had a dream that I was trying to sleep.

Lucid dreaming is better and more bad ass than any drug on the market... seriously.

I actually remember watching an episode of The Real Ghostbusters as a kid, where they get trapped in like a dream world or something, and Janine is their only hope of saving them, so she "enters" the dream Nightmare on Elm St style by falling asleep and then dreaming that she's a Ghostbuster so she can take charge and defeat the ghost or whatever the bad guy was. Ever since then I tried being "aware" when I'm dreaming to take control of them, and I've had some pretty messed up dreams.

By the way, has anyone ever experienced "night terrors" or whatever they're called... you know, when you're like half awake but you have absolutely no control over your body and everything in the room starts going bonkers while you experience something that's almost akin to having a seizure?

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

No I didnt have a dream like that but I have something else from time to time which is really like hell.

I wake up before my body does. I am totally aware that I am awake but cant move at all. Thats when I start panicking. Try everything to move my body but its not possible, sometimes I can move a finger a tiny bit. It helps to calm down in this situation and hope to fall asleep again but the only thing you want is move and you cant . Nasty feeling. Also you can withness weird effects like sounds are totally screwed up and if you manage to open your eyes you start seeing seriously crazy shit. Like walls melting also sometimes you think you cant breath and are going to suffocate. All this while beeing aware of everything. Normally it takes just a couple of minutes before you can move again but it feels like hours.

Its not a dreamy state its just beeing awake while your body wont work and thats how it feels. After you managed to move again I hesitate to sleep again and only do it if absolutely necessary. One touch from another person wakes your body up though. Sometimes you try to scream and hope someone wakes your body up. But ofcourse you cant make proper noises although you can make some noises.

This thing is one of the worst things I experienced. Its like a Nightmare while beeing awake.

I do it every now and then, usually just random, some times they can get really weird.
I always forget to try and do cool shit before I wake up though :(

Yeah, I hate it.
But it is worse when you're in a nightmare, you know you're dreaming but no matter what you do you cannot wake up.

To answer your question yes I have had relapsing dreams, and frankly as far as dream phenomena goes it isn't really the worst thing that can happen to you. Others have highlighted sleep paralysis as being particularly traumatic, not to mention night terrors. Personally while I have experienced both once or twice in my life what I find causes me some concern is the ease with which I can slip into somnambulism. Specifically the loss of inhibition that can accompany the state. I have done some patently disconcerting things while being dead to the world. I am one of the rare cases that seems to be capable of just about anything. It doesn't seem to matter how complex, or more importantly how revolting.

Apparently my sleeping self has no compunction of speaking his mind, and shoving the worst kind of swill down his gullet. He loves to beat video games I cannot while I am awake, and get this he can actually hold up a honest to god conversation. Anyway I haven't had to deal with him in quite some time. I have learned my lesson he only comes around when I do one or two things. Not enough sleep, or too much stress. I keep my stress down, and when I need to sleep I go to sleep. Whatever I have to do can wait till tomorrow.

Anyway not alone, and frankly you do not have it all that bad.
