I hope he didn't actually mean the story, cause Final Fantasy XIII's story was pitifully short compared to what came before it. But if he means the game's pacing and keeps the story atleast as long as Final Fantasy X-2 then I think we might have a win on our hand (Though if they cut the story up to make Final Fantasy XIII-3 I'll be pissed).

I can deal with it if the game is as long as X-2 which was roughly 25-30. If it is anything lower then 25

The game can be 20 for all I care, as long as I'm not button mashing X for 40 of the 46 hours of the game.  But if they keep the game as long as Final Fantasy X-2 I won't mind as much.  Final Fantasy X-2's story and game play length was balanced well.  Hell if the story wasn't in the way Final Fantasy X-2 is a really good game.

this is....concerning...

I can't wait to see the opening sales for this game.

I am the black sheep     "of course I'm crazy, but that doesn't mean I'm wrong."-Robert Anton Wilson

If they make a good portion of the game akin to Gran Pulse, it should be okay even if it was 'significantly' shorter.

If half the game is still that linear corridor shit AND it gets shortened then shit just hit the fan.

More importantly, I hope the story is actually coherent this time and the characters exhibit more common sense so that I have less urge to punch them in the face.

Much shorter but with more varied content?
Meaning I get good gameplay AND have to spend less time with serah and all the other wastes of space?

They are actually trying to sell this to me, and successfully!

Agreed, I promised myself I wouldn't get psyched after FFXIII, but I'm getting pretty excited.

I had a brief go at Eurogamer Expo and I'm not too impressed with what I played. Battle system is near identical but with added quick-time events in certain parts of the battle. Of course, they decided not to have headphones at the booths so I couldn't hear a thing which detracts from the experience and I didn't get to try anything particularly new so I'm still reserving judgement, but I'm certainly not getting it day1.

As for the length issue, it should be fine. If they're varying the gameplay with extra side quests and mini games, completionists can probably drag a few extra hours out of the game anyway.

double post

well to be honest most of the time you spend on FF13 is retrying battles that lasted 13 minutes because the game has weird difficulty spikes left and right.
sometimes its too easy , sometimes its just too damn hard that you can lose in a blink of an eye a battle that lasted half an hour.

It's hard to admit it, but I'm getting interested in more news ^^
