Not sure how you guys can claim good news for a shorter game. Yeah sure a lot of space last time was cut scenes but now all that game play space is even lower.

You mean, shorter as Tales of Xillia is compared to Tales of Vesperia? A friend of mine finished the game in 25 hours, and that is a full fledged PS3 RPG.
Would you complain about that too?

Yes.

I doubt that.

Your friend must have zip through it without reading anything. I wont even call that finishing the game imho

They basically went the route of X-2. They basically made the game beatable in about 20 hours. The only way I can even be remotely happy about this is if that Xbox disc is dual layer and compressed to hell. That isn't anything against the Xbox but the game itself.
Its not sure FFXIII-2 will be short, we cannot come to this conclusion based solely on the number of discs.
Real time cut scenes instead of CGI cut scenes to compress the game to one disc. FFXIII XBox 360 required 3 discs. CGI cut scenes take up a lot of storage space.

I'm sure it's a lot faster to use pre-rendered cut scenes. No worries about trying to fit it within available polygon and texture budget, keep the framerate consistent, and make use of limited shaders to imitate the desired special effects in real time.
The fmvs in final fantasy always were something to look forward to, and they were awesome to watch in 1080p on the ps3 version. Now they'll be like every other game? Something you rather want to skip, limited to static or slow moving scenes with few characters on screen, low res textures and blocky shadows.
No towns, no cgi, qte, extremely linear, can they make final fantasy any worse?

I believe pre-rendered video is actually faster to make.

I meant no CGI. In game pre-rendered looks good, its not like in PS1 time, so I prefer that if they can release games faster. FFXIII CGI were awesome, but I prefer if they had release 2 RPGs in that time frame then having awesome CGI. Or I prefer if they focus on gameplay, quest overall playtime and leave CGI aside. In game engine cutscene, prerendered or not, does look good nowadays.
