Second off, updating the PS3 is a pain and they know it.

Totally, you select 'update' and it asks you if you wanna update via internet or other media, you click internet and click agree to T+Cs and it updates.

SUCH A PAIN.  I cannot believe the amount of effort this takes.

So you're not annoyed when you turn on your PS3 to do whatever it takes 10-15 minutes to update?

I agree it's not the largest issue, it's a minor one even, but pretending it doesn't exist is silly.

Get a better connection. Mine was downloaded and installed in about 3 minutes.

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.

I think it has to do with the continuous changing of their end user agreements. Each update brings a new agreement the user must accept and they probably want that forced electronic signature. PSN+ users probably have some other way of signing that change as part of their monthly/yearly dues.

This is bullshit and you know it. The agreements are rarely new they are simply updated in saying stuff like

'we are not responsible for any damage that may be done by this firmware update bla bla'

This happens with all company's and it is a standard procedure. The updates don't have new agreements at all. When a new agreement is made you have to reaccept the ToS when you sign in to PSN.

You're right, everyone that constantly bitches and even Sony acknowledging must all be in our heads.

Pretty much.  Really, I could care less about the duration of time an update, patch, or installation takes.  PS3 updates typically take ~5 minutes for me, so yeah,  that's not an annoyance.  People who complain about such things, as if Sony's purposefully ruined your day, because you just HAD to game right then and there....well, that's more of an annoyance.  Wish there were addons for IE, Chrome etc... that could filter people like that out of my existence.

1.  If you bothered reading the thread, I mentioned this isn't a big deal by any means.  I'm simply curious why they wouldn't make that a PSN feature instead of a PSN+ feature.  It's a great idea, I would love to have it.

2.  The ignore user script isn't around any more (or it could be, haven't looked in a while or tried in the new VGC) but you could always just not click the thread if it bothers you so much.  No need to be incredibly hostile.

I thought this was a thread updating games not updating the firmware...if it's the latter...there's really nothing to complain about...

Doesn't the auto-updating for games only check like the last 5 you have played? It's pretty useless for most games I play, since they're older and don't usually get new updates/patches. I can understand if it's a brand new game that tends to be on the glitchy side, like Dead Island.

What I do is play the game without an update so its included in the list of updates, so that next time I play, the game will be updated without me having to wait.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

So how does the auto-update feature actually work?

I actually thought it only had to do with firmware updates and didn't think of game updates but that's pretty cool.

it doesn't cost MS anything to allow netflix to run though their hardware and yet they put it behind live...

simple answer - business make business decisions.

The thing with something like Netflix is it's something that can actually entice people to buy into it and it's an optional service that does put a strain on their network (or some network at least).

Updating is something everyone has to do and something Sony should really want us to do.

Then explain to me how come it's free to hop on Netflix on the PS3? I know you enjoy bashing Sony every chance you get, heck most of the community understands, but that's a stupid argument you just put there. A better argument in your Sony bash crusade should have been "how come I have to wait for a download and then I still have to wait for the install right after", which I do personally see as a small annoyance (I deal with it on Steam also though). If you do want to look at it another way, then you get to hop on Netflix for free while you need plus for automatic update (nice tradeoff). You can still play online for free. If you choose to get on the PSN +, the free games haven't hurt and plenty of PSN classics through the service have actually made their way on my PSP.

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

That's kind of like asking how come PSN is free?  It simply is.  I'm sure they could charge for it but it was a cool feature to make it for free.

Automatic updates are a cool feature but they aren't exactly a selling point and unlike Netflix, updating games and firmware is really important to Sony.

And I'm curious where the PSN bashing is here?  It's not like I'm calling Sony out for not making it free, I just don't see why they wouldn't make it free because it's a really cool feature.
