Doesn't the auto-updating for games only check like the last 5 you have played? It's pretty useless for most games I play, since they're older and don't usually get new updates/patches. I can understand if it's a brand new game that tends to be on the glitchy side, like Dead Island.

What I do is play the game without an update so its included in the list of updates, so that next time I play, the game will be updated without me having to wait.

So how does the auto-update feature actually work?

I actually thought it only had to do with firmware updates and didn't think of game updates but that's pretty cool.

Under one of the settings, you can see an option to turn on Automatic Updates or not. Whenever you sign up for PSN+, you can turn it on and then you can set it to when your PS3 turns on between a specific timeframe, checks for updates (updates if it finds any, then downloads/installs them), then it turns off. This also now enables auto-trophy syncing and game save upload to the cloud storage (heard the auto-upload saving feature was a bit buggy).
