it doesn't cost MS anything to allow netflix to run though their hardware and yet they put it behind live...

simple answer - business make business decisions.

The thing with something like Netflix is it's something that can actually entice people to buy into it and it's an optional service that does put a strain on their network (or some network at least).

Updating is something everyone has to do and something Sony should really want us to do.

Then explain to me how come it's free to hop on Netflix on the PS3? I know you enjoy bashing Sony every chance you get, heck most of the community understands, but that's a stupid argument you just put there. A better argument in your Sony bash crusade should have been "how come I have to wait for a download and then I still have to wait for the install right after", which I do personally see as a small annoyance (I deal with it on Steam also though). If you do want to look at it another way, then you get to hop on Netflix for free while you need plus for automatic update (nice tradeoff). You can still play online for free. If you choose to get on the PSN +, the free games haven't hurt and plenty of PSN classics through the service have actually made their way on my PSP.

That's kind of like asking how come PSN is free?  It simply is.  I'm sure they could charge for it but it was a cool feature to make it for free.

Automatic updates are a cool feature but they aren't exactly a selling point and unlike Netflix, updating games and firmware is really important to Sony.

And I'm curious where the PSN bashing is here?  It's not like I'm calling Sony out for not making it free, I just don't see why they wouldn't make it free because it's a really cool feature.
