Awesome comments from O'Connor. No console shooter is touching COD but there are plenty of them that would love to have even Halo's success. I think Halo is a better product all around and yet I play more COD online....I'm such a NOOB, me and my console shooters.
I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.
I'm glad they are really trying to make the best game possible.
Well I buy every COD day 1 and every Halo day 1 and personally I feel Halo always has been the superior product.
The article is kinda of strange because it makes it seem like Halo is shrinking when in fact the newest game Halo Reach is on track to be the best selling Halo title ever. It hasn't gone anywhere its just that COD got major mondo massive huge. And like Frank said the big advantage COD has is that EVERYONE is playing it whether its on PC, PS3, 360, DS, or Wii its everywhere which generates massive word of mouth. Halo can only generate hype within the 360 fanbase.
Halo just needs to get It's name back in terms of popularity. Halo has sold extremely well but it needs to somehow match Call of Duty in terms of sales, and that's up to Microsoft's marketing to get that to work.
Reach was honestly a very fine game. I'd say the single player campaign rivaled the first Halo game and in some peoples minds they even enjoyed Reach over Halo 1's campaign. They just need to work on better and more addictive multiplayer. How? I dunno, I am content with all the online features, weapons and new armor abilities. Maybe they should add kill streaks? They have to do something out of left field that will make everyone play the game daily over Call of Duty.
It's just that simple.
2007 - Halo 3
2008 - Halo Wars
2009 - Halo 3: ODST
2010 - Halo Reach
2011 - Halo 10th Anniversary Edition
2012 - Halo 4
Thank GOD Microsoft doesn't milk the Halo franchise.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Yes I do, Milking is a word people use to describe their hate/dislike against a Franchise that gets a yearly release or remake/port.
Top 3 milked franchises on the internet : Halo, Mario, Call of duty,
The people I play online with are ex-soldiers, military nuts, and cops. They prefer the "realism" of Call of Duty to the sci-fi world of Halo. It's easier to relate to. Once Call of Duty quit being about World War 2 and finally gave them a taste of "modern warfare", there was no turning back. Not many of them even bothered with World at War.
Microsoft will have to build a new IP based on modern warfare and do it better than the current fix, Call of Duty and convince/convert those fans. It's impossible. They will just have to settle for being king of the sci-fi FPS.

Well, Halo 3: ODST wasn't a main title. AFAIK, it was just a DLC priced as a full game. An act of milking by Microsoft. And Last time I checked, Reach was ahead of Halo 3 by about 500k. With that in mind, I think we can see that Halo is on the rise. Definitely not on the level of COD, but it's still on the rise, slightly. |
Not in over all sales, according to VGChartz sales data Halo3 has overall 11.32 million in sales while Reach only has 8.69. Of course Halo3 has been on the market a very long time and there is no guarantee that by the end of its life Reach won't surpass Halo3. However almost every new CoD to come out has increased its sales.
So is Halo really on the rise? sales show that Halo is at best around just as strong as it began on 360. The best outcome will see Halo:Reach lifetime sales coming in line with Halo3's.
Unless VGChartz data is wrong?

My COD friends seem to think COD is the most realistic game out there. They seem to have the belief that they're hardcore because the game takes place in a modern setting. Like I always say, COD is the hardcore game for casuals & the casual game for the hardcore. There's nothing wrong with that though. Acti has done a great job at making the series mainstream while at the same time making the fans seem like they're part of some elite group. I will say this though. COD is the most content packed modern shooter out there. With a fast-paced exciting campaign, a rarely-seen local multiplayer, packed with a competent online system, with smooth, appealing gameplay (something most games lack). Add that with the common belief that it's hardcore and you gotcha yourself a sure success. Things like killstreaks, perks, attachments, etc all help cement that hardcore belief. That's just my opinion |
