I liked this part - "probably to cater to the generally younger and more casual user base of the Nintendo 3DS." . Uh right. Probably why the best selling game so far on the platform is OoT. But then this deep analysis comes from the probably highly mature writers of a site named dualshockers.com , so they must be right.

OT: this does mostly sound like damage control to me, at least based on the vids I saw of the game.
