Forums - Sony - Sony’s Future With The Monster Hunter Franchise Uncertain

If you’ve been following the news that’s been flowing out from the Tokyo Game Show over the past few days, then you’re likely aware of the fact that the 3DS will be receiving two Monster Hunter titles from Capcom in the near future. In the past, the more recent Monster Hunter games have been closely tied to the PlayStation Portable, serving as the main reason for the console’s popularity and success in Japan.

Snagging the franchise out from under the feet of Sony was a smart move on the part of Nintendo, and will undoubtedly improve the overall success of the 3DS, especially in Japan. During Nintendo’s pre-TGS press conference they announced that both Monster Hunter Tri G as well as Monster Hunter 4 would be coming to the 3DS, which has left PlayStation fans wondering whether or not this means the Vita will see Monster Hunter 4 as well.

Speaking to Reuters, Hiroshi Kawano, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan explained that the future between the Monster Hunter franchise is uncertain, while alluding to the fact that there is a good chance it will go multiplatform.

I don’t know. You will have to ask Capcom.

Most large game publishers operate on a multiplatform basis.

If Sony can’t manage to get Capcom to bring the series to the Vita, the 3DS is going to have one heck of a leg up on Sony’s handheld.

well assuming monster hunter sold more units on psp i'd say the deal will be about a yr or maybe Sony has monster 5 under raps and can't say anything yet.

I think Monster Hunter 4 is going to be on both systems.

Playstation All-Stars is one of the best games I've played this gen, and is the most fun I've had in a game this gen.

dude, its capcom , its pretty certain that this version is going to be re-re-re-re-released.
i mean hey they're still re-re-re-re-re-leasing street fighter 2 and Monster Hunter 3rd

Looks like timed exclusive to me.

I'm really tired of hearing about MH. Yes it is on 3DS. It will be on Vita at some point with a rehashed version. Do we really need to drag this out in 300 threads?

LOL. Very good point.  ;)

It doesn't matter I will still be confused and the conversation will go something like this ,So Vita gets a MH game so how does it tie in with the others is it new or a remake or a remake of a remake , ten minutes later AARGH ! plus the sound of hair being torn out.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

From the reaction of the stock market to this announcement, Im sure Capcom will release a new version of this on the PSV OR maybe a port of a prev one.
