We shouldn't translate the cost directly from yen to dollar. A 16GB card costs about a fifth of a Wifi Vita, so $50 bucks or so might be more accurate.
Still expensive though.

Is there no internal storage at all? :/ Gonna struggle selling all those digital only games if people need to buy a memory card lol.
I understand stuff like DLC in games will be stored on the game cart that you buy it on though.
Thx for the post, this is pretty important stuff here.
I currently own a 8gb for my PSP. It cost me about 50-60 on SALE on some online store. Now I could find a 16gb standard for that price or possibly cheaper if I go online. So the pricing of these are on the mark. The problem is that they are horribly overpriced from the start. Memory is not so technologically advance that it should cost this much. I can get a flashdrive for about 10 bucks now with 40gbs. Why Sony decided not to use the old memory sticks is a bit frustrating to say the least. Now I can't simply reuse it but have to sell it to gamestop or something to go towards a new Vita one. I think this also now means that you cannot just take out the stick and pop it in a old PS3 or computer to gather/transfer files anymore...

very true. Yet this is not to say there won't be a bundle a bit later on. PSP started to make a killing with the system + mem stick + game bundles. I can totally see....
Uncharted Golden Abyss/Little Deviants Vita Bundle: includes the DL version game,WiFi Vita system, and a 4gb. = 300 US
This is especially important due to the fact that 3DS has a year head start on Vita and will definitely have a stellar library to match Vita at that point. Also if they do bundle it, they will save money by putting a DL version on the memory instead of it's own stick. I find it much more likely that they bundle Little Deviants as the game is being said to be more of a tech demo than game. It definitely wont be worth full retail($40), at best worth 20 so it is ideal to bundle with the system as a DL.

Well, PS2 also shipped with no internal storage or memory cards. That didn't stop it from being a success. |
That was absolute standard when PS2 launched. Everything's changed since then...
Might as well say... Shipping without online capabilities didn't stop the PS2 from being a success, so it shouldn't for the Vita.
Weak argument to say the least.

Good point.
Well, at least we don't need these memory cards to save games (for the most part at least), unlike with PS2 games.
It's only a matter of time before someone will try to hack in Micro SDHC support for Vita or something since there definetly will be demand for it.

It means absolutely nothing, times are completely different now. At that time only few competitors had internal storage. Now, pretty much everything now have big internal storage, even cheap cell phones (I talk about less than $100 cell phones). And those memory card prices are extremely high. And don't say propriety cards are better quality because they probably won't be. For example 360 HDD's are actually cheapest and slowest HDD's on the market although prices are high.
You should note that those are Japanese prices. They're going to be less expensive elsewhere.
bleh... lets hope that a third party will make a MicroSD adapter like they did with the MemoryStickDuo..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)
OK, OK, I admit my previous point was a swing and miss.
Then again, I guess they need to earn their money somehow, since I don't think they're getting any profit from Vita itself.
Whatever, it's optional so far. In like 2 years we'll probably see PS Vita - 2000 with internal storage anyway and by that time someone will figure out other solution (like those card adapters).
