whoa ps3 down form 230ish from last aug.

sony better get out the pen and pad and head back to the lab

console preference among the current HDs for this gen are likely to carry over to next gen, the MS dominance we see in US and UK could start spreading to more regions next gen and even get more MS dominated in US and UK

if i were sony i would start rolling out with some bundles for US i dont really recall sony doing many in that region something like two or one older good exclusive games for $249, similar to what MS has done in the past years during this time cause unless we see something different for sep. (there have been some excuses thrown out like supply, only half month of price drop ect.) a $249 160gb aint going to cut it

as for MS its a rap they will most certainly out sell the other two by quite some margin now that wii sales are lower than last year, the majority of consumers that bought a wii years past during the holidays will most likely move to MS, on top of that NPD hasnt even started recording walmart and such something that they said will come soon. you thought youd see high MS you aint seen nothing yet

I dont think bundles will really affect things much. Games really do sell consoles, and this gen, MS nailed the software offerings in US.

Not only that, but its just the 'it' console in the region i assume, people are buying 360's no matter what at this point (friends, software, price, image etc.).

I agree with you though on the shift in console preferences in the region, and how that will carry over into next gen. Dangerous times for Sony. The US is the last market you want to be irrelevant in since its by far the biggest and most important.

Unless Sony do something amazing next gen compared to MS, Ninty, which they probably wont..these trends will probably continue. Sony REALLY needs to think about how it approaches the next gen. And unlike MS Sony doesnt have unlimited resources.

They should be more concerned about VITA because Psp is absolutely dead and im not seeing VITA doing any different. Well they have Call of Duty.

mentioned that in my other post...dedicated gaming handhelds...not looking good.

Guess Sony shoudl be worried on all fronts, Sony is DOOMED :P

It looks like casual handheld gaming is almost dead. But if enthusiast handheld gaming is also dead we will know when Vita releases because Nintendo has nothing to offer to that crowd with 3DS.

Well, I wouldn't call doom and gloom for Sony quite yet.  They are far from irrelevant in the US.  I mean its nowhere near as bad as the 360's performance in Japan.  You just have to remember that at launch the price gap between the 360 and PS3 was $200.  That is a HUGE difference.  It wasn't until late '09 that Sony was able to become truly competitive with pricing.  So even with the price difference and the 360's headstart, the PS3 has been able to not only stay afloat (when many believed it would spell the end of the Playstation brand) but also rise to where it is truly challenging the 360 for 2nd place.  It really just shows the strength in the Playstation brand.  I think next gen all Sony really has to do is keep their console at an affordable entry price (probably ~$399) and make sure they have plenty of quality titles in their first few years.

I wasnt being serious when i said Sony is doomed :/ come on look at worldwide sales!

Anyways, u dont need to remind me about the launch price of the ps3...i mean i bought one round about that time like a true fanboy :D But really this isnt the point i was making. Whether it was because of launch price, the wii, the 360 launching 1 year early etc. it doesnt really matter. Sony is considerably behind its competitors this gen in the US. Not just by a few million but over 12 million!

And im not so sure on the power of the playstation brand in the US, looking at this NPD results its clear that that power is dwindling. And if the current trends continue and stays the same into next gen, then i dont think Sony would be happy about that at all. So i dont think they can just make a console affordable and have quality titles...they need to do more than that, because its likely that MS will have also done that.

You must also remember where Sony has came from, they were the outright market leader in all regions for two generations. They have taken a big hit this gen. Sony isnt looking to settle for third or second place, they are gonna want to become market leader again, especially in US.

I wouldn't say it is a lock, but I would say that 360 and Wii might get very close the ps2 numbers, which is impressive for two consoles.

Yeah, it's not a lock. All depends on how it does this holiday and how next year fares.

You are a fanboy.

And while the PS brand was strong after the PS1&2, price will almost always win out.  Especially in a recession.  I doubt anyone would believe for even a second that the 360 would still be 2nd place right now if the PS3 had only launched with a $50-$100 price difference, even with a 360 year head start.  The US chose a cheaper price tag with a similar library.  However, the Xbox preference will not be set in stone for next gen.  In the end, it is really MS who is going to have to prove they are the superior buy next gen.  Sony will undoubtedly have great 1st party support ready for launch and, if history continues to repeat itself, really good HW to back it up.  MS, on the otherhand, has probably spent more money on timed exclusives for this gen than they did on buying/building 1st party studios that will help them next gen.  A Halo from a non-Bungie studio has yet to prove itself and GeOW isn't going to be there next gen.

You're half right, at the start of the gen price did dictate whether 360 would outsell PS3 in NA, now, no, it's actually the prefered console, you know, that is possible that people favour it over the PS3 given they're so 'similar'

To add, yes MS will have the advantage next gen in America, they've built upa  very loyal base that actually bought the 360 becaused they wanted to, not based solely on price.
