Forums - General Discussion - Gay blood donations ban likely to be lifted in UK

wrong its that anal sex itself has a higher risk of blood transfusion than other types because the anal lining is more susceptible to damage... your tirade on gay promiscuity and promiscuity in general was not needed

If a gay guy is HIV negative, and he's in a monogamous relationship with another guy, also HIV negative, they can have all the anal sex they want, they won't get infected with HIV. HIV doesn't just magically appear when you have anal sex. It's also been scientifically proven that the more sexual partners one has (especially one night stands with strangers), the more likely that person is to get infected with an STD at some point. Promiscuity really is the main reason why AIDS was/is so prevalent withing the gay male community, as opposed to the heterosexual community, or the lesbian community - the least promiscuous group (insert joke about lesbians not having any sex).

I would laugh in the face of anyone who says that this policy was homophobic. It doesn't make sense now because I'm sure there are high tech/accurate screening methods for HIV/AIDS in the blood they get...but back in the 80's when they made this rule they didn't have accurate methods to detect AIDS. It was to protect the public, not to discriminate.

US Airport Security strip-searching every person they see with a turban is discrimination...this policy wasn't.

Back in the 80s they labeled AIDS a 'gay disease', which is one of the main reasons why it took so long for action to be taken against it ('who cares about the gays? It's great that there's this disease whiping them out!'), and it spread as much as it did (affecting everyone, reagrdless of sexual orientation).

AIDS was labelled a gay disease with good reason... it was spread more rapidly by gays than any other demographic hence the label

It was labeled like that because it was initially believed that only gays could get it, hence why it took them so long to take the disease seiously.

i think both promiscuity and anal sex are very important factors in terms of how much AIDs has spread

i'n just saying that initially calling it that was justifiable because it was spread more rapidly by gays than any other demographic

Promiscuity by far is the most important factor. Having any kind of sex with an infected person is dangerous, and the only reason people wind up having sex with infected persons is because they're promiscuous and have one night stands with people they don't know. Very very few people would knowingly have sex with someone who is infected, but when you're drunk and pick up some guy from a bar, 'when were you last tested from HIV' isn't going to find it's way into the conversation (if there even is any kind of conversation). Gay guys have to learn to be more responsible.

you can have sex with a infected person and not be infected, its only if blood transfer occurs that the infection is spread... in this context gays are far more susceptible to infecions being spread for reasons i already covered... but regradless as i said yes i do agree that promicuity was and still is very important to the spread of STDs i'm just pointing out that there are other factors at play here also

I know tons of straight people and none of them hate me for being gay. Many of the most appreciated posters on this site are gay. Most people don't care about sexual orientation.

Yeah you believe that, how people act and what they think are completley different. My friends cant stand gays but would never openly insult one to their face. People always pretend to be politically correct in public.

Everyone cares about sexual orientation, like i said if youre gay you wont have the same way of thinking as the majority because you arent in the same position.

You have opened my eyes! Thank you! I never realized before that everyone in my life hates me but they all pretend to like me for the sake of political correctness. It's all so clear to me now!

You can be sarcastic as you want, but you bet theres people who act fine around you but laugh at you behind your back for what you are. Straight men will never be able to accept gay men.

Posts like yours make me sad to the core of my very being.

TruckOSaurus is an awesome member, not in spite of being gay but most probably because he is and he's happy. I work in several bars and nightclubs and I know a whole lot of people and there are two things I would like to point out; gay people are probably the most important and best patrons/guests we have in some places and the vast majority of straight people have nothing against them at all where I come from. Actually, I'm off to work in twenty minutes and there are TWO GAY BARTENDERS WORKING TONIGHT!! One of them is even the bar manager and does a terrific job, imagine that.

OT: Here in Norway, anyone, regardless of sexual orientation is placed in quarantine status as blood donors if they had a new sexual partner within the past six months. I have a very rare bloodtype (AB +) so they want me to donate but the last time I went, I couldn't give any since I recently got a new girlfriend. Banning gay blood though? Jeez.

Of course there are other factors too, but ultimately, it's only through promiscuity that you can wind up having sex with someone that is infected in the first place. There's also that condoms sometimes break. The study posted by ps3_jrpg_gamer is also quite ambiguous. Here's another one though (showing promiscuity and lack of responsability).

This is not my kind to react to these kind of thread/comments but...this thread is so funny/pathetic/sad.

I've been with the same guy for 3 years, living a normal life... studiying, playing games, working etc. Even if i'm gay doesnt mean i go to insane unprotected orgies every 3 days....

Scary how people think HIV is a gay-only disease... This was really scary to read :

''''''This is just wrong, straight people would never want a gay persons blood inside them. if i had the choice between a straight or gay persons blood id pick the straight guys everytime just like 99% of straight men would.'''''

Please replace gay persons by 'black', or any race, or dwarves... or whatever. I didnt know blood was straight, or gay, or bi.....I feel so sad for you being so dumb.

keep in mind that you can be the most devoted person ever and still have your partner cheat on you... thats not to say people shouldn't be responsible for their sexual activity just that theres no real guarantie with situations like this regardless of what you do
