I don't think Jurassic World will outgross the first Avengers domestic even though it's tracking $25M ahead of it.

It's very, very difficult to accurately predict if it can outgross the first Avengers or not, even after 10 days since its release. On paper, a movie with JW's audience would have better legs than a superhero movie, but both of them are box office anomalies, performing at a scale we're not used to, hence the lack of assurance given by its gross at this moment. All we can do is wait.

P.S: With actuals closing in, it would seem JW is actually at least $30M ahead of the first Avengers at the same point in time, shattering the second week-end record with $107M.

Where are you getting the 107 million second weekend figure?  I just checked Box Office Mojo and it said 102.

And 4 million difference is not 'shattering' anything :P

The one in Box office mojo is the early estimate, not the actual. Remember JW's first weekend? The early estimate was at 204m but actuals was actually 208.8m. Go visit Deadline.com for the most up to date numbers for both domestic and international box office gross.

I know, it's the hype speaking.

And that figure is from unofficial sources, one of them being rth, the Box Office God on forums.

From Deadline:
"Universal just made it official: Jurassic World has collected $402.8M in 10 days, the fastest film to hit that mark, beating Disney Marvel Avengers’ record of 14 days. Pic is officially the highest grossing Jurassic Park title in the franchise stateside, surpassing the first title’s lifetime cume of $402.45M. With a second weekend of $106.6M, JW also owns the record for the best second weekend of all-time, kicking Avengers’ ($103.05M second weekend) in the butt. Next record to takeover: highest grossing film of the year. Avengers: Age of Ultron currently counts $449.4M. Universal Pictures Interntional’s Jurassic World continues to stomp through box office records overseas by reaching $500M on Saturday — the fastest than any film in the studio’s 103-year history. With $584.4M offshore and over $400M in the states, it is also dino-soaring to the fastest to $1B. See accompanying story. it just reported a weekend take of $163.4M in 66 territories.  "

I know it was an estimate, that was kind of my point...we didn't have numbers yet so I was wondering where the 107 million figure came from.

106 is good, though.

Regardless, I'm kind of shocked at how awesome it is doing, and I'm super stoked to see more JP movies thanks to its performance.

This Monday's gross is crucial for the rest of Jurassic World's run. We should be able to estimate how much it will drop next weekend and, ultimately, where it will sit on the all time charts at the end of its performance based on how much it makes.

Over $550 domestically is pretty much guaranteed could have a slightly shorter run then the first Avengers since it was released in June instead of May. But it pretty much was released at the perfect time as far as Universal goes since it didn't cut into any of the profits Furious 7 made.

Speaking of which, Universal has already made more money domestically than it did in the entire 2014 year : $1.240b >  $1.115b, with 6 months left to go.

Universal will easily have their best year ever they still have Minions, Ted 2 and Everest coming out as far as movies that should make a decent amount of money.  They also broke the record for fastest studio to get to 1 billion domestically in a year this year they did it in 165 days which is nine days faster then Paramount did it in 2008.

Isn't the start of summer vacation this week? Does that usually boost box office gross?
