As said, the problem with waiting for the redesign is that six months later there will be a massive price drop!
Then an addon will be announced that makes the redesigned system the ultimate babe repellent, followed by a redesign that integrates it after six months.

Thus continues the Nintendo cycle of shame - just like the Apple cycle of shame, only less pretty

Problem. IOS devices don't last more then 1 generation. My 3GS lasted just over a year and then broke down.

So it's not a matter of always wanting the newest model, it's also because you have to upgrade, or pay an penalty.

I know I am. There is no way I am holding that ungodly mess of an attachment Nintendo has belched out. I was on the fence of getting a 3DS after the price drop, now I am certain I will wait. Thanks for making my decision easier Nintendo!

I think I might have over reacted. I know the add-on is just being shown for MH 3D but I just rushed to conclusion that this would usher in the redesign even quicker with the inclusion of another stick. I believe the 3DS redesign probably won't be released till fall 2012/spring 2013 like a few other people have suggested. That would be about 1 and 1/2 years since the original was released which puts it in line with the DS to DS Lite releases.

I am not entirely sure if this redesign will even include the second analog stick. I suppose we have to wait till TGS to find out more info and what Nintendo is going do about the entire situation. Even then they will probably not clarify everything. I wish they would just come out and state that this will be just an add-on for a few select games and that they will not be including a second analog in any upcoming redesigns. Even then that will piss people off that demand a second stick. So they are pretty much damned if they do and damned if they don't.  I am going to guess they won't include a 2nd analog stick with the redesign and even if they do I am probably going to get one now anyways considering most the games I want to play are coming out soon.

i say get it now if most of your games u want dont require a 2nd analog stick, i love my 3ds and its worth having it now in my opinion. :)

I don't think you overreacted, it would make sense that the add-on were to be used for more than just one game, and a second analog stick could be very useful for many games, as long as it become standard before a user base lacking it become too large, discouraging devs from using it. So if Ninty decided that second stick could be useful for more than just one game, it must redesign 3DS asap, because the idea is good, but that add-on is appalling.

If a redesign that includes a 2nd analog stick is indeed coming, then Nintendo better hurry it up, or else the split in the userbase becomes too large and damages credibility even further.

Not just credibility, it would make third parties not use it to reach the largest audience, like it happened to WM Plus.

I think you'll wait for the game you want to buy. And in the meantime, if they announce the redesign to be out not long after your desired games release, then wait for the redesign. And if there is still no redesign announcement when that game out, buy the handheld, no need to wait....

Yeah, there´s that too..but let´s wait to see whether this add-on is only for Monster Hunter or a sign of a redesign that includes a 2nd analog stick...if it´s the latter, then it´ll cement my opinion that, just like Sony didn´t deserve to win the 'console war' with the way they handled the PS3, this time Nintendo doesn´t deserve to win this handheld competition against the Vita...but they´ll probably win anyway.

I´m hoping it´s the former..

This is a very real possibility.

I don't feel the 3DS redesign will happen any later then fall 2012. That's already a year and a half, which is a bit less then most Nintendo redesigns, but then again the DS and GBA both had much more respectable battery lives then the 3DS. Also Nintendo remade the DS more often and more frequently then the GBA, and they remade the GBA more often and more frequently then the original Gameboy.
