First of all Nintendo designs some of the best looking consoles/ handhelds....this thing is ass ugly.
Stupidest rumour I have ever seen and heard. That big ass thing for just one extra analog stick? Do you know what something like that would do to the battery?
On top of that, how the hell would you shove that in your pocket? The whole idea is portability!
And im not even going to start on how close it is to the buttons!
Just more anti-Nintendo propaganda to slow down 3DS sales.
How the hell did gaming get to this sad pathetic point?

How does the size of it have anything to do with the system's batteries? Chances are that it'll even have its own batteries anyways.

The 3DS is just a touch too small as it is right now. With this add-on, I can tell everybody here now, it'll feel almost the perfect size.

ALSO: THIS ADD-ON WAS DEVELOPED BY NINTENDO AND CAPCOM IN TANDEM SPECIFICALLY FOR MONSTER HUNTER 3G.

It is NOT intended for widespread use at this moment in time, though it DOES lend credence to the rumor that a redesign is in the workings. Judging by the fact that 3DS has to-date only sold a bit less than 4.5million units, if they pump out the redesign early enough, there won't be as many people alienated and upset.

Lastly, the add-on communicates to the system through the small infrared port on top of the system.

I'm upset. I should have held off on buying a 3DS (got it like 3 weeks ago or so). Only two games I'm rocking are Tom Clancy Shadow Wars and Devil Survivor Overclocked.

I have enjoyed the meltdowns on Neogaf. They are making it sound like its the downfall of Nintendo. I love the 3DS and with Mario Land and Mario Kart coming out, its going to be an amazing holiday for Nintendo. This attachment is the cradle now with a slide pad, and it seems that it was made just for Monster Hunter. People just need to calm the hell down and stop with the stupid comments. I have seen people say that they are glad that they sold there 3DS, but when Super Mario Land comes out, they are going to buy it again. Really, how stupid can people really be. Its seems that there are no intelligent people and a bunch a whiners on all these forums. Where are the sane people on the forums with the common sense.

Settle down man. You can't blame people for being a little pissed off. Won't you be a little pissed if more 3ds games in the future require a 2nd circle pad and your forced to carry one of these stupid pieces of shit around just because you bought a 3ds within the first 6 months.

where is this mysterious new model for the 3DS, because by the looks of it, you guys are just assuming shit

That add-on is one of the ugliest things I've seen, it looks bulky and it makes the lower half of the 3DS look unnaturaly large.

Still, it is hilarious watching Nintendo completely mess up their handheld line: they thought they could push the 3D onto us, and are now failing badly, and to add to that, to appease to 3rd parties so they release more games on their system, they release this terrible peripheral. And unlike what some might believe, why would this be limited to MH3G? We all know how 3rd parties love to port their games on anything possible, so if this add-on replicates a 360/PS3 controller, why wouldn't they do it? Now we just have to wait for their conference to get the details.

Damn, I need to find those 01net articles again. The first one turned out completely true, now I'm waiting for the realisation of the other ones. It's going to be brilliant.

Ok, so I guess you have only played try at the best right?... Ugly, sure, but if you check the previous games this new monster is in line with the other monsters... mess up their handheld line?... MK7, mario 3ds land, MH and Izunama eleven go this year, and everything goes to money... nintendo is going to swim in money again...

@underlined: I'm sorry,  but I really have no idea what you're trying to say here.

@bolded: Yeah, the sales show it. As for those games, MH and Izunama eleven are only big in Japan, and even so, only MH has a small chance of turning things around but that's it. Mario 3DS land as a killer app is a joke, without going into too much detail, it's a weird bastard child between 2D and 3D mario and it ends up being a game that neither 3D mario fans want, nor the 2D ones. MK might have a chance, but looking at the videos shown so far, it seems doubtful. So, since they don't have a killer app for christmas, they are not going to be swimming in money any time soon.

yep the sales do show it, number one selling console in the last 4 weeks

What on earth are they thinking? This will become a fiasco of epic proportions.

Its official: Nintendo has gone mad.

If this is an optional add-on for MH, then it's silly, but acceptable.

If this is a compulsory add-on for MH, then it's stupid, but still acceptable.

If If this is an optional add-on for many future games, then it's very stupid, and it's testing Nintendo's consumers' patience.

If this is a compulsory add-on for future games and leading to a redesign, then it's one of the stupidest things Nintendo has ever done, and totally unacceptable.

Hopefully it's one of the first two.

I'm gonna wait with the overreacting 'til I actually know if this is 3DS's Classic Controller or Motion +. If it's the former then I really don't see a problem but if they're already pushing the M+ then it's time for some headscratching.

Really, it's probably the fourth.

But honestly any early adopter who wanted the perks of the newer model are dumb. If you're an early adopter you should know what you're buying. Noone will argue that the DS Lite was leaps and bounds more portable and desirable than the DS fat. The same is going on here. With the 2nd analog it becomes a fat yet again.

I think Nintendo is banking on tri G to make the 2nd analog mainstream, so that when the upgraded model comes everyone will have the compatible games and have a smooth jump.

To all those jumping Nintendo's throat, I'm sorry but this is the first time it actually makes a fatal hardware mistake (apart from the virtual boy). However you can be certain that 50% of console sales for 360 and PS3 are thanks to new models emerging due to crappy design flaws, so it's not limited to Nintendo. Anyone denying that is blasé. The fact that Nintendo is jumping in so early to mitigate is actually not a sign of their madness, but of their absolute genius. They are the dominant company in the market, they want it to stay that way and so they're taking drastic measures to ensure that.

I have no issue with this and bought the 3DS in May. I will probably buy both the add-on (as it looks comfortable) and the game.

For the Mario Land 3D hate, time for a prediction. I predict 10M lifetime sales.

Yes, MS and Sony redesigned their consoles, but they didn't add features that were compulsory and made all previous owners of the system buy a peripheral in order to be able to keep using their consoles.

That's a big, big, big, big, BIG difference that you're not mentioning.
