Forums - Sales Discussion - Best selling JRPG's outside Japan this gen?(on consoles).

What about Yakuza? It seems like jrpg to me with long cutscenes, a linear plotline and levelling system.

Resonance of Fate 360 - 190k

None of them bar FF surpassing a million, although if we include handheld then DQIX sold over a million.  I've missed obscure games like Aterlier and Ar tonelico but i suspect they did terrible anyway. Same with Agarest war etc no real numbers.

Atelier Rorona has 260k and Totori 200k (without western release) if we are speaking about obscure ;)

edit: sorry just noticed you listed only western sales of FF and rest :D

Actually i don't consider MH a JRPG either. I just listed it regardless. I guess Demons souls is technically a JRPG. In that case that has sales of 940k excluding japan. I fully expect dark souls to thrash that number.

No.

It's too bad most gamers outside of Japan just play mindless COD matches rather than engrossing JRPG's. If they had FF XIII level graphics in a new Star Ocean game, and good voice acting, hopefully it would become as famous as Mass Effect!

Mass Effect isn't that popular at all, especially considering how highly rated it is.

ME3 should easily do 1 million+ first week so i'd say it's very popular.

Also skeleton...there hasn't been that many engrossing JRPG's this gen, apart from LO, none of them have engrossing stories.

I'm dissapojnted in the lack of JRPG sales but really....they haven't been that good. They don't deserve good sales. The saddes thing is the best selling JRPG this gen is also one of the worst.

For a game that is 96 on Metacritic, its sales are pretty low.

Hopefully ME3 does better.

And I liked FFXIII :P, Tales of Vesperia had a fairly good story too.

2 and a half million for virtually 1 console is very impressive. ME2 is also a single player ONLY game. . Lets not forget these games aren't popular in Japan at all. 3 mil if you include PS3 version and 5M+ for the ME franchise. its a new IP .  Is ME popular among casuals? no, but who cares.  ME3 will sell a lot more anywya

And Vesperia was a great game, story was nothing special though. Ok ok i'm being harsh, FF13 wasn't the worst RPG this gen far from it but it's the worst FF game in years.
