Forums - Sony - Will the launch of PSV affect PS3 sales in Japan?

I think it will, but not significant, maybe just drop 10% max. I think only PSP that will have the biggest impact on PSVita launch....

I'm so confused by the on screen buttons point now. Features (even if just in game) are always welcome. dito. we won't know wht the full potential for those buttons are untl the console comes out and we learn more about them. i'll be waiting with you lol.

Hey, MS has more then 2 franchises. Halo, Forza, Fable, Alan Wake, and Rare. Besides MS tends to publish a lot of 3rd party games exclusivly (Gears, Lost Odyssey, Too Human, Star Ocean, etc). If you ask me, the number of quality exclusive games is superrior on the 360 then the PS3. Gears, Halo, and Forza alone trump every PS3 game IMO. I just hate MS as a company, and paying for online. well i'm glade you agree that GEARS and Alan Wake are the best games on the system(lol i didn't put words in your mouth i just took some out/i hope you don't mind lol). Forza 4 will be my first forza so i'll reserve comment. Rare is dead to me, and they screw'd up conker live a reloaded. we'll never see another conker again unless another pub. buys it off MS. i will never forgive rare for that. rare can eat a dick(srry to much boondocks)

i also don't count 3rd party games the console maker doesn't own out right. so heavy rain, gears lost odyssey, too human(which suck's imo, according to wikipedia Alan wake, and star ocean. yea even Sony fans here say i'm harsh, but thats only becuase i expect more from console makers and pub's in general.

i hate halo

your opinion is respescted but imo MS has nothing to hold my interest. they give you wht someone else own's and i need reasurance that the ip i buy the console for stay exclusive.

I don't think I can wait as long as you on a next gen console. PS3 Slim came out in 2009, while the first X-Box came in 2005. That's a 4 year wait into the 7th gen. I can maybe wait 2 years, just want 1 price cut, and a second gen console (second gen systems have different hard drive sizes). I'll get my Nextbox when they make a redesign and drop the price heavily, I really like MS's exclusives. once again respected but most of the exlcisves you named arn't guaranteed to stay exclusive which is my problem with 3rd party dev ip. theres still the rumur'd PS3 slim2. it can only get smaller right!

PS3 and 360 both will hit 75 million midway into 2013. I can't picture them selling under 10 million next year, and I don't see it dropping below 7 million in 2013. Add 5-6 million this holiday season and yea, 2 years, but after that sales will crawl. agreed

For continued support, MS did keep X-Box live up for X-Box users until 2009. I think, like Sony, they will continue creating consoles until people stop developing software. So as long as PS3's keep getting Madden, so will 360's. Sony will just make a game or two post lifetime for the PS3, where MS probably won't. agreed. MS will keep live up for 360 for 3 yrs after the launch of xbox 850 and then kill it. i think PS3 will become an indie developers paradise after PS4 launches.

For graphics, we don't need them, I agree. A lot of my favorite games are not graphically powerful. However better graphics are appreciated. 2 generations from now (20 years considering the long lifespan nowdays), games will look soo different then they do now. There will not be any noticable polygons, or clumps of hair, or false lighting. All effects will be done in real time and not pre-rendered, and just damn. Next gen all I wish is that anime type games (DBZ, Tales of Vesperia, etc) be indistinguishable from anime. I want to play a cartoon, and I think that is possible. Tales of Vesperia didn't come too far from that and DBZ looks a lot like the cartoon. dito.

Our discussion has changed rapidly. I'm in 100% agreement about graphics. A lot of people I know are such graphics w**res nowdays. Not all great games have ridiculous graphics. This is why I'm going back and working on a bunch of great SNES/PS1 era JRPG's. They were the best back then, and the graphics suck. lol have fun. i wish i could do the same but i don't have those games yet i'm sure there on wii virtual console.

I own Conkers: Live and Reloaded, but I have yet to play it. What's wrong with it? From what I've seen it's just Conker's Bad Fur Day with upgraded graphics. its missing 99.% of the other multiplayer matches

Rare used to be a better company. Apparently most of the employees left Rare after MS bought them out and joined Crytek. No wonder Crytek is making some pretty damn good games nowdays. lol true. the thing is MS executives didn't want the now former owers input so they left and form'd a new company.

Forza is like GT. There are differences, but regardless to what other people say, they are both excellen sims. You probably won't notice a difference unless you put in over 50 hours each. The only real difference, and the reason why I prefer Forza is because Forza is designed more like a game. Cars are unlocked much much more easily in GT5. You can almost play every single cup using a different car. You can also rewind races, which is damn well appreciated when you start working on endurance races. GT encourages you to get 1 good car from each region, and with various layouts (AWD, Turbo, etc) and then tune them to win races. I prefer to drive multiple different cars then a select few, and it doesn't take long to drive dream cars in Forza. In fact, the very first race of Forza 3 is in an Audi R8 V10, and that race is done so they can reccomend a difficulty for you. yes they are but hell i've never really play'd either.

Too Human is a love it or hate it game. I know people who love it, I know others who hate it, and I know almost no one in between. IMO it's a great game, but unpolished (feels like some cinematic sequences, and characters are missing all together). ok

Also I agree with you on third party games. Look what happened to Mass Effect. However I still consider Gears of War as an exception because MS heavily funds the development of that game. they still fund ME?

However 3rd party is important. I'm big about JRPG's, and Sony/Nintendo haven't developed a good JRPG in 15 years or so (Paper Mario was the last good Nintendo JRPG, and The Legend of Dragoon for PS1 for Sony). So which systems get what JRPG's makes a big difference to me. I'm thoroughly dissapointed at how few JRPG exclusives PS3 is getting, and JRPG's alone I feel are reason enough to get a core 360. If next gen is like this one, like I said, I will get an MS system, but the arcade one. Mostly for these third party games and a handful of MS branded ones. i see. the lack of JRPG's this gen is unexceptable.

Yes I know, most of MS's exclusives have been timed in the past. I did say I would get a MS system next gen as a secondary system. I agree with you about third party games, you can't say you like Microsoft because of the third party games, but those third party games still can be reason enough to own a console. dito

Personally 360 exclusives are more catered to me. I like Sci-Fi Shooters, Racing Games and JRPG's. 360 has more, and better JRPG's then PS3 (at least ones I like, I'm not a big fan of Demon Souls). I prefer Forza over GT, and overall most will agree that Halo & Gears is better then Resistance & Killzone. well thats sells in my eyes and the winners in preference by sells is clear.

I know most people here are big PS3 fans, but except for Uncharted, GT, Killzone, Heavy Rain, and Valkyria Chonicles, there isn't too much on PS3 that interests me. Tales of Xillia is the first game that is making me want to buy a PS3 again. thats still alot of interest in comparison to just my 3 games for 360!

It's all a matter of preference. I prefer 360 just because it has the type of games I like, but most people here are different. I mean I can easily live without Uncharted or GT, but not without Gears or Forza. hey i can live without either if there not dedicated franchises which the 4 you mention'd are, but i still need more. get me to want your product before i buy and Sony has done it to gens straight while MS has my respect for wht they've done this gen. the original xbox is better IMO.

In all honestly, all 3 systems have their own great titles. Each system has at least 1 game you really don't want to miss. That's why I will eventually get all the systems (PS4 after a redesign, NextBox when prices crash, and a BC 9th Gen Nintendo). i think i'll stay way from Ninty next gen. the usual suspects just don't interest me anymore.

Multiplayer matches in Conker? Is the single player still the same?

Mass Effect 1 was published by Microsoft. Just prior to Mass Effects release Electronic Arts purchased Bioware, and EA published ME2. Since MS has some rights over Mass Effect 1, Bioware was not allowed to port ME1 to PS2. My point with Mass Effect was that third party companies can be bought out, or decide to make their game multiplatform alltogether. Although 1st party companies can be bought out too (take Bizarre Creations), but it's less common.

Gears of War, although 3rd party, I don't consider to be any different then Resistance for PS3. Insomniac is not a first party Sony company, they just agreed to develop Resistance for Sony. The only difference is Resistance is a Sony IP, where Gears is Epic, but I really don't see a Gears of War coming out on PS3. I put Gears of War in the same boat as 1st party exclusives, MS won't let their second best selling franchise go multiplatform. I guess this is probably more like MGS then Gears, but I still count it as a solid exclusive.

Actually, there are just as many JRPG's this gen as any prior gen, they are just more spread out. X-Box only had a FFXI port come to it, and Gamecube had 2 JRPG's (off the top of my head, Paper Mario and Tales of Symphonia). Last gen PS2 had all the JRPG's. Now this gen Wii is getting XenoBlade, Last Story, and Dragon Quest X, 360 got Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, and Infinite Undiscovery, and PS3 got Valkyria Chronicles and Demon Souls. I don't think there are particularly any less JRPG's this gen then in others.

I know I'm interested in a handful of PS3 exclusives, I'll admit that, but before Tales of Xillia, there wasn't anything I could live without. Heavy Rain and Valkyria Chronicles are probably the only must have PS3 titles for me. There are more must have titles on the Wii for me then PS3.

For 360, except for Fable, all the big hyped exclusives are my types of games. Basically for me Gears, Halo, Forza, Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia (so far), and Mass Effect are much bigger games then any PS3 exclusive, and then Alan Wake, Too Human, Infinite Undiscovery, and Dance Central are about as interesting as Uncharted, GT, Resistance, etc.

Anyway, both systems are good, our debate has really changed. I will likely get a PS4 over a next-box simply because I'm tired of unreliable US products. 90% of the games are multiplatform anyway, I can hold out a bit for the next Forza and Halo.

Your view on MS is my view on Sony for software. Last gen Sony got all the third party exclusives and really made me want a PS2. Gran Turismo was better (for the time), Twisted Metal was good, and GTA was a platform exclusive! This gen Sony has lost all their third party exclusives, and yes they have tried to make a few first party ones, but feel MS did a better job securing exclusives (1st and 3rd party).

As for your last comment, I'm on the same boat. Nintendo rarely makes a new IP, NOA won't ever localize any great Japanese games, and a lot of their old IP's remain unaltered. I think for Nintendo home consoles I will likely skip generations, so I won't get a Wii U, but I'll get whats next. I need an updated Mario Kart at least once a decade, and some of Nintendos games are just phenominal (Fire Emblem, Donkey Kong, Metroid Prime, Smash Bros, etc).

See I got Conker after I bought my 360, so online is dead anyway. As long as the core game is the same, I'm happy.

Still MS has butchered Rare. Look what Rare makes on 360 now, Kinect Sports, Avatars, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts? Damn MS. I mean how hard would it be to make a proper Killer Instinct game? People always argue MS has relativly few 1st party titles, and Rare has a bounty of great IP's. I mean a proper Banjo Kazooie would be nice too, 360 needs an exclusive platformer.

Also I agree with you Gears of War 4 might come out on PS4. I hope it does, so I can still continue to play the franchise. I told you Sony is a much better company then MS, and third party exclusives are becoming so rare nowdays. Mass Effect is already multiplatform, so if next gen is like this one I'll just get a nextbox after a slim redesign and many price cuts.

As for 360, I guess I'm just defending my taste. Most people here love the PS3, and it's exclusives, so you guys really don't have to defend yourselves. I always feel on this website, I have to explain why I prefer 360 over PS3 for software. People are shocked, but for the 3 genres that dominate my gaming, 360 is better. Overall I think PS3 is better, I'm just not big on Action Adventure or Platformer titles like God of War, LBP, and Ratchet. Maybe it's because I look to Nintendo for those types of games. If I were a fan of PS3 platformers, I might share the view of more people here. How we lead to this, I dunno. Guess we didn't want to debate to die.

Don't worry, I'll argue with you somewhere else. We just need a good topic to debate. We're dry here.

BTW Resistance 3 is looking awesome. They brought back a proper co-op mode.

Multiplayer matches in Conker? yes the original had all kinds of multiplayer matches and the shooting was far better then any shooter wev've talked about so far. Is the single player still the same? a few changes here and there thats about all but that rock'd, but you have to deliver on the whol package.

Although 1st party companies can be bought out too (take Bizarre Creations), but it's less common. ok

I guess this is probably more like MGS then Gears, but I still count it as a solid exclusive. not PS3 but PS4? i never count anything out and don't expect a GEARS 4 on current gen consoles which i'm sure you don't lol.

I don't think there are particularly any less JRPG's this gen then in others. i see

I know I'm interested in a handful of PS3 exclusives, I'll admit that, but before Tales of Xillia, there wasn't anything I could live without. Heavy Rain and Valkyria Chronicles are probably the only must have PS3 titles for me. There are more must have titles on the Wii for me then PS3.

understandable

For 360, except for Fable, all the big hyped exclusives are my types of games. Basically for me Gears, Halo, Forza, Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia (so far), and Mass Effect are much bigger games then any PS3 exclusive, and then Alan Wake, Too Human, Infinite Undiscovery, and Dance Central are about as interesting as Uncharted, GT, Resistance, etc. lol ok your not giving much to argueabout

Anyway, both systems are good, our debate has really changed. I will likely get a PS4 over a next-box simply because I'm tired of unreliable US products. 90% of the games are multiplatform anyway, I can hold out a bit for the next Forza and Halo. i agree

Your view on MS is my view on Sony for software. Last gen Sony got all the third party exclusives and really made me want a PS2. Gran Turismo was better (for the time), Twisted Metal was good, and GTA was a platform exclusive! This gen Sony has lost all their third party exclusives, and yes they have tried to make a few first party ones, but feel MS did a better job securing exclusives (1st and 3rd party). i can see that being an influence.

I need an updated Mario Kart at least once a decade, and some of Nintendos games are just phenominal (Fire Emblem, Donkey Kong, Metroid Prime, Smash Bros, etc). agreed

here a link to the old conker multiplayer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuunZgJ4_NM&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5YzKOQ9viA&feature=related

there maybe a few more

See I got Conker after I bought my 360, so online is dead anyway. As long as the core game is the same, I'm happy. the core game was the multiplayer. it made the game. when the story was done it was done.

I mean a proper Banjo Kazooie would be nice too, 360 needs an exclusive platformer.  dito

Also I agree with you Gears of War 4 might come out on PS4. I hope it does, so I can still continue to play the franchise. I told you Sony is a much better company then MS, and third party exclusives are becoming so rare nowdays. Mass Effect is already multiplatform, so if next gen is like this one I'll just get a nextbox after a slim redesign and many price cuts. dito

Guess we didn't want to debate to die. well every console fits a sertant taste, and as for debating we just ran low on things to debate about lol. see although this seems to be a Sony dominated site, it seems now adays everyone pitches in for all consoles. back in the early days you wouldn't dream of seeing a Sony fan post anything positive about 360, but its done everyday here now. maybe the fall season will end the since of normalcy we have around here now but as things stand to day it seems we all work to improve the site and educate newcomers letting them know that VGC isn't the place for hardcore fanboys so get that straight or move on.

i'm really not like any other sony fan on the site. i was a N64 owner cause it had the games i liked. i was a PS2 owner cause my brother onwed the Xbox. now i'm a PS3 owner for 2 reasons. 1 my brother and i said we would stick to the brands we own so i stuck with Sony and he's disapointed with the xbox 360  so he's getting a PS3. the other reason is i'm very demanding when it comes to supporting any platform and for me Sony does it better with more.

alot of people say xbox live is better but me and my more core 360 owners really see no difference other then the way there set up. i've always had the same problems and successes with both never a difference other then 1 you pay and the other you don't don't have to. PS+ i by choice. i guess you can say its more of a charity lol but it has great deal's.

speculation time:

the real question is wht will MS do next gen when it starts all over again and everyone is on even footing with no edge and Sony and Ninty exlcusives push PS4 and Wiiu ahead of them just by a small margin and Halo has already been released . Epic says the cost is to great and GEARS goes multiplayform, new ip's are one sided in sonys favor cattering to everyone(not likely) and the war is between Ninty and Sony because noone can get anything timed exclusive and bundles for 3rd party on consoles and games show there faces day and date and wht most call money hatting nolonger works.

will they still say the best multiplatform experiance is on nextbox or start building ip from internal studios cause i'm sure next gen saying were the best console for multiplatform games won't work. end speculation!

i'm sure some 3rd party bundles will happen but 3rd party won't want to miss out on the potential of a sells boost just to catter to one console.

Don't worry, I'll argue with you somewhere else. We just need a good topic to debate. We're dry here. i'd say so except the conkur thing

BTW Resistance 3 is looking awesome. They brought back a proper co-op mode. can't wait to get on it.

Fanboys get banned, moderators are really good here.

N64 was your first console? You're 26, that means you got into gaming at earliest 10. You had nothing before that?

I've always been a hardcore Nintendo fanboy. My sister had a SNES, and I wanted my own system so I got a genesis. However I was pretty disappointed with the genesis so I got an N64 when it came out, and then a PS1 for some reason. Last gen I bought a PS2 and GCN basically at launch, but I played the Cube more then the PS2. However looking back, I should have played more PS2. This gen I went 360 because I didn't have an X-Box 1, and before Uncharted 2, 360 really looked like a lot better of a console (I mean Bioshock, Lost Planet, and Elder Scrolls were all exclusives at one point, and multiplatform games looked better on 360). However reliability was terrible, so I bought a used PS3 while my 360 was off for repairs, and I later bought a Wii because finally a proper Mario Kart, and Pikmin 3 (now Wii U). However My PS3 broke, and with the right amount of b***hing I got a much more reliable HDMI 360 free (with a free controller by accident). Next gen I'm doing what you did and sticking with brands I know and trust. So it's PS4 for me, and maybe a Nextbox after a few models come for reliability issues and overall disgust and MS market strategy.

PSN is almost as good as XBL. Considering PSN is free and XBL is $60 a year, PSN is a great bargain. The only benefit I take advantage of in XBL is cross game chat (Party's). That and mic's came with the 360, but that's not exactly an XBL benefit. However I don't do party chat's that much anymore. I would say PSN is better because I can literally pick it up and play it for 3 hours for 1 day of the month, and not worry about cost. XBL is only available over monthly timeframes, and I really don't play online much during the summer. PSN is actually one big reason why I am switching back to Sony next gen.

As for your speculation. MS has $$$ Remember how many third party exclusives the 360 had at the start of this gen? Also 360 did start off with a decent amount of first party support. Project Gotham Racing 3, Perfect Dark Zero, and Kameo. Followed by Halo, Forza, PGR4, Crackdown, Fusion Frenzy and 2 Viva Pinyata's in the next 2 years. Sony wasn't much different with the PS3. Resistance was the only 1st party launch game, and it's only a 1st party IP developed by a third party company, so I'm not sure if that really counts. Then in the next two years they developed a couple Motorstorms, Uncharted, Eye of Judgement, Ratchet & Clank, Warhawk, LBP, SOCOM, a second Resistance, and a handful of sports/sing games.

So I don't think you are giving MS enough credit. After all they are still selling good volumes of 360's even though it's at a higher price point then the PS3. I mean if they have the ability to sell a cheaper system at a higher price, who knows what they can pull next gen. I often hear MS has a 3 generation home console strategy. X-Box was to get a name out there, 360 was to get the brand some recognition, and next gen for them to go full out.

MS will have some sort of third party game. Gears of War got big because MS heavily funded the project, I'm sure MS will do the same with some other game next gen. This is why even though Gears is third party, at least this gen I give it the same credit as a first party game. MS had a lot to do with the franchise getting to where it is.

N64 was your first console? You're 26, that means you got into gaming at earliest 10. You had nothing before that? well N64 was the first console i bought. i had always been around consoles growing up. before the NES i was a PC gamer. and even with NES i was a PC gamer. i've play'd on near every console ever made since i could walk, talk, and play. its just hwt gaming ment to me then and wht it means now are 2 different things. to be honest i new nothing about gens until i came here.

the funnyer thing is that in my area everything was called a Nintendo from from sega's to playstations, and most of the time still are. so N64 was the first console i own'd and bought and i play'd on the NES until about 4 yrs ago before it died, so from about 1987 till 2004 i gamed mainly on the NES while owning a PS2 and N64, and yea i've own'd all sega consoles except dreamcast but i gamed on that 2.

PSeye does like some webcam stuff out of games on PS3. it fix's that problem.

As for your speculation. MS has $$$ Remember how many third party exclusives the 360 had at the start of this gen? Also 360 did start off with a decent amount of first party support. Then in the next two years they developed a couple Motorstorms, Uncharted, Eye of Judgement, Ratchet & Clank, Warhawk, LBP, SOCOM, a second Resistance, and a handful of sports/sing games.  agreed. the differencee is even playing field where there are no advantages based on this gen.

lets be clear. Sony was stupid in thinking they had this gen on lock, cause every gen gamers look for the best value and that was 360 at the time. 360 hit the gate first, PS3 struggled, and MS had the install base so they had the advantage but games that go multiplatform mean nothing after they go multiplatform. it may mean something to the fanboys looking for bragging rights but bragging rights me nothing to me if i get the game on my console of choice even if yours got it first.

all i'll have to say is that it may have come to your console first but we'll see the sequal day and date. oh you get DLC first? ok i'll get mine 1 month later costing the same price with the same functions or i can wait for the special addition and get all the DLC that you paid for and got first free. theres always a counter. yours just have to look better while making theres look meaningless, you wouldn't beleive how well i do it. the main problem i have is the younger fanboys. i think MS will be ready but they may be to blind to focus on themselves v 3rd party. Ninty never needed 3rd party but they want 3rd party. Sony will likely not need 3rd party. i think Sony made it back on there own, now that can be disputed considering COD is the biggest seller on PS3, but before COD could do anything Sony had to work on them other wise PS3 would still be in a distant 3rd place.

X-Box was to get a name out there, 360 was to get the brand some recognition, and next gen for them to go full out. see i've always been ready for this as me and a good friend of mine who can debate and talk about anything sit down(kind of like wht we've done)and talk about the pros and cons of each system and just by the numbers and not personal preference PS3 won. he like american engineering. i like the best/most reliable product(and always look for the best bargains before purchase)and we agree on the pros and cons of each system leaving personal opinions out.

remember when i said i started out as a PC gamer! which PC manufactures PC do you think i started out on? one was apple i'll let you guess the other.

MS will have some sort of third party game. Gears of War got big because MS heavily funded the project, I'm sure MS will do the same with some other game next gen. This is why even though Gears is third party, at least this gen I give it the same credit as a first party game. MS had a lot to do with the franchise getting to where it is. i do to. for me it is a first party title because GEARS 1-3 are all on 360, so its important to the 360 brand.

younger fan boys are the pits. i got my younger brother inlaw who can't make up his mind which side to be on owning both consoles PS360.

i got another one that lives just across the way that claim's 360 is better and more people in the complex owns 360's while i'm the only one with a PS3.

wht he doesn't know is that he's the only soul owner of a 360 in the complex (apartments). you never know until you know and thats when you know, and i just happen to know who own's wht and where in my area lol while some punk 10 yr-old kid knows only wht he sees.

I would say PSN is better because I can literally pick it up and play it for 3 hours for 1 day of the month, and not worry about cost. XBL is only available over monthly timeframes, and I really don't play online much during the summer. PSN is actually one big reason why I am switching back to Sony next gen. cool. PSeye does like some webcam stuff out of games on PS3. it fix's that problem.

As for your speculation. MS has $$$ Remember how many third party exclusives the 360 had at the start of this gen? Also 360 did start off with a decent amount of first party support. Then in the next two years they developed a couple Motorstorms, Uncharted, Eye of Judgement, Ratchet & Clank, Warhawk, LBP, SOCOM, a second Resistance, and a handful of sports/sing games.  agreed. the differencee is even playing field where there are no advantages based on this gen.

lets be clear.

X-Box was to get a name out there, 360 was to get the brand some recognition, and next gen for them to go full out. see i've always been ready for this as me and a good friend of mine who can debate and talk about anything sit down(kind of like wht we've done)and talk about the pros and cons of each system and just by the numbers and not personal preference PS3 won. he like american engineering. i like the best/most reliable product(and always look for the best bargains before purchase)and we agree on the pros and cons of each system leaving personal opinions out.

remember when i said i started out as a PC gamer! which PC manufactures PC do you think i started out on? one was apple i'll let you guess the other.

Fanboyism is bigger now that it used to be. Before, during the PS1 and PS2 era, people generally accepeted Sony is better, but N64 really had some fun multiplayer games, and some of the greatests exclusives. Same with the SNES era with SNES being accepted as better. This gen marks the first gen where people conflict in opinion. It only makes it worse that PS3 and 360 sell about equally well.

To be honest, I'm still learning about gaming. I played Chrono Trigger during the 6th gen, not the 4th, and it's my favorite game. I didn't miss many great Nintendo games just because I was so hardcore, and I retroactivly bought all the good X-Box games, but Sony man.... I'm missing a lot of great sony games. I think at the end of the 7th gen I became compitent about games, and I knew what I wanted. So at this point I knew exactly what PS2 games I was missing out on, niche or mainstream, and I knew what PS1 games I missed, along with Sega Saturn, but now PS3 has flourished much better then I expected. So it leads me to believe to just stick with Sony. However get a Nintendo every other gen because they tend to make their systems BC to 1 gen at least, and get a 360 when it's cheap (assuming that make a cheap model).

I think Internet has helped out in our knowledge of upcoming games and quality. Before the 6th gen, websites like IGN were just forming, and forums weren't big yet. Now look how much help they provide. It may not just be us being kids, it may be us having more access to information, and demos being available without rentals.

Sony did start off stupid this gen, I agree, but it's not just because Sony thought they had this gen in the bag. Sony makes most of its money selling Blu-Ray players (or DVD's and CD's back in the day). They make royalties off every system sold, and royalties off every movie sold. They put Blu-Ray in PS3 prematurely. When PS1 and PS2 had CD and DVD disk systems, they were already big. Blue Ray hadn't even won the platform war when they put in on a PS3. It was also very expensive.

Sony did this because PS3 does help in Blu-Ray sales, and selling a DVD PS3 when they have Blu-Ray shows that they don't even support Blu-Ray. So it was a buisness decision, which helped them in the movie industry, but hurt them in the gaming industry. There is no Blu-Ray replacement yet, but in 10 years (so 9th gen) there will be. So I don't think the PS4 will cost anywhere nearly as much out of the gate, Sony may start strong again.

I agree, Sony really developed their first party studios this generation. Next gen, they might be able to make some real awesome AAA 10 million selling games. If sony losses MGS exclusivity that may still hurt them, but Sony can hold their own now, and I think in the future, all console makers will have to do this too.

Also I think I agree PS3 is better then 360, just not for me. Like I said I don't care for half the PS3 exclusives (platformers, action adventure, etc), so that alone is enough for me to like 360 more. Also, living in Canada, where 360 is more popular then PS3, used games drop much faster on 360. Except for Call of Duty, by the time a 360 game drops to $20, the PS3 version is still $30 or more. I mean I bought Dead Space 2 for $30 when it was still $50 on PS3, and this rule is especially true for timed 360 releases.

and we agree about Gears, good. We actually agree on a lot of things.
