Forums - Gaming - Ok, I am gonna say it - Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is in many ways much better than God of War 3

didn't really like castlevania much. god of war 3 while short, was a more enjoyable experience.

GOW3 wasnt anything special, terrible story, boring sets, nothing new. Was worse than GOW2 easily.

If the full game is like the demo of LoS, then it's a stupid attempt at turning castlevania into God of War. Weak graphics, weak artstyle, and generally boring to hell.

Infamous, darksiders, and Dante's inferno(not sure about devil may cry) are all 15 to 20 hrs long.

while i haven't beat Castlevania yet its not a strong enough game in comparison. to GOW.

GOW lost me at the end with the hope thing. i liked David Jaffe's idea better http://thesilentchief.com/2010/08/03/david-jaffes-vision-for-god-of-war-iii/ (heres the gttv vid link http://www.gametrailers.com/video/sdcc-10-gttv-extended/702453)

Castlevania has some serious issues. I appreciated the graphics and the presentation overall but the gameplay feels quite shallow. The biggest problem is that the dodge button is the same as the block button and that bring all sorts of problems. If you're gonna rip off god of war at least do it properly. I haven't played God of War 3 specifically, but I doubt the combat has changed at all since GoW2, and Castlevania's combat doesn't hold a candle if that's the case.

But yeah Castlevania is a gorgeous game. GoW3 wasn't all that pretty to being with. Gameplay definitely needs work, though..

I never had problems with either dodging nor blocking. The only real issue I've seen so far is the camera. GOW combat is really repetitive and kinda dull after a while, there are like what, 7-20 combos for the main weapon?  Castlevania has over 50

I loved Castlevania LoS, it may be one of the best games this generation imho.

I haven't played Castlevania, yet. My take on it is this: God of War 3 is about ten hours long. It was an amazing ten hours, for me. As great as those ten hours were, they are over. Castlevania is a viable option for people that want to play something similar to pass the time until God of War 4. There's a ton of options in that department: Conan, Bayonetta, Dante's Inferno, Devil May Cry, etc. for fans to try.

So, instead of assuming that game A is better than game B (which is a matter of personal opinion, no matter how you look at it), let's just say that people who like game A will probably enjoy game B, too. It doesn't have to be better than the game that a majority will always feel is the best (this goes for any game that tries to knock Mario, Halo, or Gran Turismo off of their perch, too.). Save the comparisons for when Gears of War 3 faces off with Uncharted 3. That's when it will actually matter.

LoS > GOW3 I enjoyed LoS and wasn't all that impressed with GOW.

inFamous isnt an action adventure game,  dont know about Darksiders, but danters Inferno is NO WHERE NEAR 15 hours long, I beat the game in little under 9 hours

Castlevania would have been great if they didn't screw up the combat. They make it really difficult to utilize the long combos the game has, makes it worse is that you can't chain little combos together to make a longer one, makes even far worse is that your combo breaks when you're dodging. They make items hard to come by, so when you need a fairy or holy water to use in your long combos that you can barely pull off, you barely have them. Air combos are useless since as soon as you get in the air there's always an enemy that knocks you on your ass while your in mid combo. Most of your combos leave your rear defenseless so when you're about to get into a combo someone comes up from behind and stops you mid attack. You can't stun enemies without items unless they're orcs and they stop spawning a quarter of the way through the game. The lords barely have any strategy when you fight them (One of the lords becomes attached to a dragon so you never actually fight him). The game's combat was a good idea if the enemies actually let you utilize it, which unfortunately means the combat starts revolving around the block button (since it doesn't break your combo). God of War on the other hand does something smart; little combos that chain into longer combos. So when you do have to dodge, your combo isn't broken. Most enemies can be stunned and the ones that arn't take damage before they block (Except the Satyres and even then you can throw them) and most enemies leave themselves defenseless with some attacks so you can strategize, no enemy in Castlevania ever leaves themselves open after an attack. Like overall Castlevania isn't a bad game, but compared to most action games I've played through this gen (Beat: Golden Axe, Heavenly Sword, Bayonetta, Devil May Cry 4, God of War 3, Castlevania. Got through 4 hours of Genji), it's just slightly above average for me. The upper echelon being God of War, Devil May Cry 4, and Bayonetta.
