After many years, I finally bought a console again, my last console was a SNES.

It's also the first generation where I bought 2 different consoles (Wii and DS Lite).

Unfortunately it seems that Nintendo forgot about old school gamers like me with 3DS and Wii U so who know when I will buy another console again.

If it wasn't for the DS I'm scared what my grade would be any way 4 stars.

Former something....

4 stars. Quantity wise (I mean the quantity of worthwile games, not shovelware) it's the best gen ever. But all 3 consoles have too many faults to really give it 5 stars. There's also a distinct lack of original titles this generation.

3 stars

For the most part games haven't been improving from the past two generations, they have just started looking prettier.

3, last gen was better despite improvements. The hardware has blown, PS3 was too expensive. Wii using GC tech, 360s RRODing right and left. PSP shooting UMDs at people and even the left shoulder on my DS went. JRPGs took a nose dive on consoles this gen. Even worst than SNES era at least the little bit of JRPGs that came out then were great. Charging to play for online, ugh. Online passes. Way too much FPSs, way too much exercise and dancing crap on WIi. Lazy ass devs. either not wanting to learn the PS3 tech or just not really trying with the Wii (some of them). abysmal Wii library in general. Thats the negatives, now some positives

Fighting games, especially 2d ones coming back to prominence. Seeing as this is my fav genre i love it. More WRPGs jumping to consoles, was never much of a PC gamer, so im actually glad for this, never thought i would enjoy Fallout 3 as much as i did. Online improvements in general, great job MS, good job Sony, meh Wii. I love the DL games on Live/PSn. motion controls, i like em all, especially when they actually work

now;....I would give it a 4 because I am dissapointed we didn't got sequels to games like SSX that I really loved last generation...........

You are not going to make a thread like this every week don't ya?

I was totally subjective to give to this generation a 4. I had lots of wonderful surprise and great new experiences. I just missed some jrpg love, which was my favourite genre prior to entering to this generation.

My 3 pros:

Innovative approaches to gaming (motion controls, new story telling strategies, new genres, etc).

Multiplayer gaming and socializing through your consoles.

WRPG games getting stronger and stronger.

My 3 leave behind:

Paid DLC.

Too many sequels with little innovation.

Lack of JRPGs.

2

DLC, extreme dumbing down of genres (FPS and RPG), extreme dumbing down of games in general, DRM, "cinematic" buckets of shit errrr games, removal of integral features, hyping of games that are shit, shit reviewers and reviews, and I can really keep on going about this for nearly half a page of just how shitty games and gaming has gotten since around 2005.

The only reason I didn't give it a 1 was because of the Wii and the aphrodisiac that is called Wii Sports.

If we were to rate our own consoles i'd give different grades but i guess since its overall i'd give a 4. The -1 was for the constant DLC and milking (cough cough* Capcom)

3.8 stars.
Questionable moves by Nintendo, not enough Japan presence, dark era for JPRGS, stupid NoA.
On the flipside, I loved text based games this gen, great action games, great platformers, and my favorite Zelda ever (then again, it's a last gen port)
