Difficult decision, and likely one that can't be objectively resolved.

At the moment, i would say a 4, but we'll have to see where this all leads before we can objectively assess this generation

I want you to pretend today is the end.. I also worried you of all pll are giving it a 4... what this mean for future voters.

Me of all people doing what? What tendency are you inferring there?

You giving it a score of four stars. If you are willing to give four stars, then that probably means that the results will be overwhelmingly positive which is the contrary of what Xxain has hoped for.

Of course, i'm going from the perspective of Nintendo-only guy, who got all the games he wanted, some beautiful old-school revivals, new classics, access to NiGHTS and Monster Hunter, and i managed to avoid most of the BS that went on aside from major 3rd party screw-jobs, which were mostly games i wouldn't care about anyway (aside from Soul Calibur and Tales of, it would be hard for me to care less for most of the third party multiplats), but i wasn't exposed to DLC or online pass crap, so i enjoyed it. Aside from a reasonably weak end to the gen on Nintendo's part, i got what i wanted and then some

Also my average game score is an 8.7. I'm part of the problem from a critical perspective

2 stars. By far the generation that has had me most bored, and the one that drove me to become 100% PC (practically).

not going really into it but i wouldnt rate it as high as past 2 gens maybe it could be just me though getting older

lack of a good gta is disappointing also franchises that i enjoyed like NFS have completely turn to crap for me this gen why is it so hard to just improve on last gens games for titles like NFS and gta?

the sports games are also gone like skate snow and surf boarding and also survival horror isnt as big as it once was with RE5 being what it was kinda goes with the pionts a made before why did they have to completely changes elements of the game why couldnt they gives us a game like RE0-code veronica

some things are good though like what gears did with co op and TPS in general, forza series 3 and 4 brought new life to sim racers and car content, also the changes with COD going modern and fictional storys i thought there campaigns where action packed and enjoyable and there MP brought a new type of game experience to consoles

4 but fun

wht kicked this gen off for me was VGC(back in 2007), and its been nothin but thrills sense with or without the occasional trolls. this is also my most active gen.

the games are rock solid, the debates are long winded, but worth it most of the time, the experience is more then i could ever ask for as it keeps me alive, and i've learned more this gen then 11 yrs of school and 2(disputed) yrs of college.

even if this gen ended today with all the games yet to be released being released i'd still give it a 4.

have you seen the innovation promised to you this gen? i'd have to say mostly yes, but my expectations mayhave been to high.

i missed out on alot in the 7th gen.

alot of genres have been abandonded or just re-implemented poorly so i understand your frustration.

3.

4 ≈ One

Two stars.

My former interest in nearly every genre was forcibly limited into a selected few. It was also the first gen where I barely liked anything Nintendo even had to offer outside of handheld affairs.

I was saved by Batman: Arkham Asylum, the Gears of War series, and Call of Duty. Were it not for those, this gen would've gotten a straight zero if there was an option for it. Series like NBA 2K existed in the past, and for things like this gen's wrestling games, tried-and-true formulas were ruined miserably. In my personal opinion, there was truly no great JRPG to speak of.

Japan, my God Japan! They made no console games I would rate above 8.5; I don't use a 7-10 scale, I use 1-10.

Mass Effect was a solid exception to my Western RPG (ish) rule, because after Fable 2 & Oblivion I swore off those forever. Metal Gear Solid 4 was a snoozefest and nowhere near as engaging as MGS3. Sony did not make any must-haves and I thought Uncharted 2 was just good; not Game of the Year, just GOOD.

Third parties just made very terrible games consistently, and with 1st parties going insane (WTH no Zelda!?!?), I was left with scraps. This gen sucked, and the next one looks much worse.

Three pros?
More companies will die due to selfish misdirection now.
Consumers will rebel against price gouging by keeping their dollars.
Software has received its just dues, and it is still the only thing that matters - not cinematic developer vision nonsense.

4 stars, good gen but not the best. Too many fps and let down by square, but some excellent games came out.

I was between 3 and 4 but I went for 3 because of all the shooters, casual titles and motion controls.
