Forums - General - Student Arrested for Plotting Gas Attack on Anti-Pope Crowd

Sort of scary, however as others mentioned if their was any chemical's or bioweapons the Spanish Authorities would have made it abundently clear. This is just another nut job flapping his gumbs to get attention, nothing more. Its sorta scary to see those FaceBook posts Galaki put up as they clearly are not Christian in any way shape or form.

Those people need psychiatric help seriously!

As for the fact that the Popes visit will cost Spain money, its expected to bring in about 100+ Million Euro's a day according to the CBC. I saw the interview aired. Over 1.5-million pilgrims are expected to visit. That is a huge deal countries hold Olympics with less people and spend a shit load more money holding them. Example Canada spent over a billion holding the Olympics and less then a million visitors came. However the tourism boost helped our economy and made us a fortune. (Well tourist industry at least)

These 1.5-million pilgrims will spend a ton of their cash in Spain. Infact 100 million Euro's a day is probably underestimating them. Also it will put Spain on the map and probably boost tourism for years to come. That would be a huge incentive for Spain.

People need to think logically, the amount of money that this visit and all those tourists bring in to Spain is huge. Sure those without jobs aren't really going to benefit right aways but it is very good for the country. Tourism dollars are a big issue.

I don't have anything against your post but just to clarify the bolded sentence.  Spain is the second country in the world with most tourists per year, after France and before the USA. In the summer time the population almost doubles from 46m to 80m. So Spain is definitely on the map already.

Is it just me, or did anyone else read that in a 'redneck' voice?

I know, I've experienced it first hand...

He has been released, maybe he wasn't as dangerous as that news report made him appear.

He's been released, but it was on bail. Also, he has to go to a police station twice a day, cannot leave the country, his passport has been confiscated and he's address and phone number have been has been set.

Do you really think that if he was really dangerous, he would have been released in any form?

He's basically unders surveillance, so even if he it was just a "joke" he could be dangerous, he could end up carrying out his plan, now or in the future.

Why so defensive about someone who's basically threatening to murder a group of people because of their ideology?

Because I reckon how this unfolds. This is the typical situation where something gets a lot of exposure, then it ends in almost nothing, but we don't get the same exposure of the real facts in the mainstream media. I live in Spain, I read Spanish newspapers and watch Spanish tv, and this has been used by most tv stations (TVE, Tele5, La Sexta and Cuatro) and some newspapers and radio stations to incite the hate towards the Catholics and the Pope. This has been used to incite the rage and justify the parade against the Catholics and the Pope, where anarchists threw lots of one litter beer glass bottles against the pilgrims and the police. It seems that there are some politicians who need this confrontation and anger to propel their opportunities in the next elections.
