Yeah that sounds about right.

And not only is the Wii U not backwards, but the new Wii announced at Gamescom isn't compatible with Gamecube games. Considering the Gamecube is the strongest library Nintendo has this decade, I think that was a pretty poor decision. Luckily I can buy an old Wii off eBay so I can play both Gamecube and Wii games I have missed over the years.

Still, something tells me Nintendo won't use any kind of rewards system.

Let me just say something though, the only missing backwards compatibility in a SONY console is no PS2 games on the PS3, PS1 games work on both the PS2 and the PS3, PSP digital games work on the PS Vita. So if you want to play Chrono Cross or any PSP games on the PS Vita, you can :P

To the bold: Are you saying I can copy my version of Chrono Cross onto my PS3, and then transfer it to a PSV? Or do I have to buy a digital copy?

Also the new Wii, it's not the only Wii. They are still selling the old BC Wii. Just don't get the "Family Pack" Wii. Mario Kart Bundle is still BC.

Buy a Wii now if you're interested in BC. I got mine last fall for $200, and Mario Kart alone is worth it, now they have a Mario Kart Wii bundle for $150.

To some it is. One big reason I bought a 360 before PS3 was because I didn't have a core XB, and I wanted to play Halo 2 and Conker. I also got my PS2 to play PS1 games since my PS1 broke, and there were lots of great games I had yet to play. Oh yeah, because the 10 year old Emotion Engine is so expensive. Sony is just a bunch of cheapskates.

The DS did not have a Z80 processor making GB and GBC game playing impossible. Also, Nintendo was just too cheap to put in a 20 year old processor in the DSes hardware.

After the removal of the PS2 components, the HDD size increased, $100 was slashed off the price tag and the likelyhood of getting the YLOD dropped significantly.

The original PS3 played PS2 games because one of PS3's cores was a PS2 core, just smaller. With the Slim design they replaced that core with something cheaper. I read that this saved them $5 or so per console sold. Guess they were really trying to cut costs. Also HD remakes do sell :-/

Next gen, I think they will be smarter. No more $600 consoles

I have to admit, if a Final Fantasy HD collection comes along I won't miss PS2 backwards compatibility. I love the idea of having them in HD with trophies, it makes the experience better than the original.

And I think they learnt their lesson, it would be better for us and for them.
