The "charger" proves it will have built-in batteries... most probably lithium ion similar to PS3 remotes. I think that is new and was not part of the reveal.
Other than that, this provides nothing that shouldn't have been obvious already.

| bmmb1 said: ""Massively Single-Playing Online Game." - hmm... interesting concept. I guess it's basically a game a la WoW, just without involvement with other live players. What's the point, you may ask? Well ,a developer can create huge worlds, and keep adding new content to the game world... All those complaining about way too short single player campaigns could get what they want. Not sure if such a concept can actually be granted a patent though (?) |
I think it's Animal Crossing....

They also filled a patent for the idea of a "Massively Single-Playing Online Game." |
I've found this link to the entire patent file, with some more detailed explainations inside, if you would like to add...

The drawings are not accurate design representations, it won't look exactly like the Wii, otherwise the Wii Remotes should also look exactly like N64 constrollers, since that is what the Wii Remote images looked like in the patent documents.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
My observances:
(1) Inclusion of "flash memory" AND "internal memory". This seems to imply that we will be able to insert SD cards directly into the controller itself. If that's the case, then the controller could indeed serve as a standalone gaming machine sometimes. Interesting.
(2) Inclusion of a magnetic sensor. Similar devices that include magnetic sensors are basically all smartphones. They're the part that's used to allow you to have a digital compass or a metal detector app. Inclusion of one of those while also including a gyroscope AND accelerometers leads me to believe that Nintendo intends for the WiiU controller to have the most versatile and accurate motion control as-of-yet possible.

Where's the vitality sensor?

When it says memory on these things it is generally talking about RAM, not personal data storage. It mentions in the patent that the controller uses the flash memory to store the program it needs to boot up, and the 'internal memory' is I think the RAM it uses in conjunction with the CPU to process video/sound data and all the other inputs and outputs.

patents don't mean that's what the final product is going to look like.

Makes sense. Looking back, it doesn't make any mention of random-access memory at all. Damn, I got excited at the prospect.

I didn't notice how much the Wii U looks like the Wii until now...
