When it says memory on these things it is generally talking about RAM, not personal data storage. It mentions in the patent that the controller uses the flash memory to store the program it needs to boot up, and the 'internal memory' is I think the RAM it uses in conjunction with the CPU to process video/sound data and all the other inputs and outputs.
