Man I just noticed something I guess I'm not the biggest Zelda fan and never played the early games when I was young. But hell Link's shield had a cross on it? Was he supposed to be a knight or crusader or something origionally whats with the cross?
I hope North America gets a twenty fifth anniversary website maybe with some swag that would be awsome!

The cross was just supposed to look cool ("Western"). No deeper meaning involved.

I reposted the question in the other thread because I think mods will lock this one or get rid of it. Nintendo did alot of stupid things to appeal to the west. I doubt the cross did anything to boost Zelda's sales and acceptance in the west, infact I'd find it more confusing since Nintendo clearly did not know the significance of the symbol. Or if they did it was sorta low to use someones religion to market your product.
Then again Nintendo made Mario and Donkey Kong to satisfy the west because they didn't think the origional game would appeal. I guess they made some good and bad decisions when it came to bringing products west!

Plus you couldn't do any of the more elaborate designs on the shield on the NES.
Who else here would kill for some sort of Zelda anthology with a whole bunch of the early Zelda games on it? The first four would be awesome - Zelda, Adventure of Link, Link to the Past and Links Awakening.
Edit: @Joel. The cross on the shield is hardly going to alienate a significant portion of the western audience. The vast majority of people don't care. It's the same with how the more fundamentalist Christians in the west reacted really badly to Harry Potter but most people just thought they were a pretty good read.

The thread could be saved if Galaki edits the OP to talk about the shields instead
Also, it's pretty weird that a site this big doesn't have a merge option for Mods. I've moderated a couple of forums, and you could easily merge duplicate threads - I think that's much better than hidding the thread in question.
TomaTito is right.
There should be a merge option. It can't be that hard to implement.
