Question: so this Simulview uses the 3d tech to display two separate 2D feeds for multiplayer? so that stuff is not in 3D and just another form of splitscreen?

Thats correct. It works just like this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGuXlNe6s7s
Except using 1 PS3 console/game. So while it is lower cost solution, and kinda cool, I expect the resolution to be 1/2 720p for each player (or whatever the game runs at). I guess at 24 inches, that isnt too bad, but I wouldn't expect a 40+ inch TV which does this till next gen.

I play my PS3 and run my HTPC on a 24" Asus VE248H LED... it's plenty big. |
Still depends. How big is this for the average Consumer? At that size, they seem to be aiming at a very niche market. Or at least bedroom sales for a younger audience. I personally think its a risky endeavor. My PS3 personally is run on a 42" Sony Bravia, I wouldn't be able to stand halving that size and downgrading to a 24", regardless of the 3D add on.

I guess if one is 100% set on console gaming, and wants to give 3D a go on consoles and has a sibling which they play games with together on a regular basis, and limited space...the Sony one may be a viable option. I'd like to try it and see what this full screen split screen looks like, but being used to DLP 3D, I find 1500 dollar LCDs dissapointing in 3D...so my expectations for a 24 inch 4 ms repsonse time pannel are pretty low. Does anyone know if this Sony TV supports side to side, top/bottom 3D? If not, and it only does frame packing, people who want to watch comcast 3D cable or play 360 3D are screwed... And 2XDLP 3D is something we are both waiting for. I personally want a single unit with 2 polarised lenses doing full 1080p 3D. Don't want to bother with 2 projectors... Sadly I don't think we will see this for a few years. There are a few interesting 3D projectors coming along...Panasonic has the AE7000 coming out which is the first LCD 3D projector. And Optoma has an high end HDMI 1.4 compatible projector which is coming in at 1500 bucks. Not bad... |
The honda to ferrari comment was to your original "I can do it on my Samsung LED DLP using this adapter and 2 xbox 360s or PS3s consoles." Thats beyond the scope of this (tho I will admit to looking it up after reading that :)
After comparing a DLP theater and a Non DLP 3D theater, the difference is just plain amazing (its the same for 2D movies as well). I cannot wait for the 2xDLP 3D projectors...if they ever come. It is a shame how DLP is almost overshadowed by the underwhelming Plasma/LCD/LED displays (and I will soon add OLED to this).
I am hoping this Sony "Display" is only the first of many revisions because the potential here is amazing.
I'm the kind of person that would rather have a bigger HDTV than a smaller 3DTV so I'm wasting my time in this thread, anyway.
The thing that makes it look cool is the fact that two people can look at the same screen and see two different images. CGI mentioned that it can do this using just one console. That's pretty awesome but......what console games are going to support this feature? Are these games you want to play? These are just questions potential customers (ie: not me) will have to ask themselves. If it were possible (and it probably is) for one person to play video games while a second person watches TV, it miiiiiiiiiiight be worth the cost.......but I already do that with picture in a picture on my current TV. We just have to wait and see how it does when it hits retail.
i'm just going to wait for this to get bigger.

Yeah saldy in consumer TV market, DLP is done...
Its a damn shame too cause I think they perfected it at the end of the lifecycle. That Samsung LED I bought on the end of 2008 should last 60,000 hours without any loss of brightness and PQ. No rainbows cause of no color wheel, no bulbs, 3D capable, 67 inch screen for under 2000 bucks in 2008... If Samsung didn't bail on the tech, Texas Instruments would have had this "dualview" full screen split screen tech ready for all DLP based TVs years ago. (using 2 consoles obviously and the wonderful checkerbaord method).
Good news is that in projector market DLP are slaughtering everyone.
no thanks i know which 3dtv im getting its panasonic viera 42" full 1080 3d 600hz all the way for me, will set me back $$ but im sure ill be blown away already seen it in action at curry's and was amazed...
