General consensus was positive enough I went ahead and grabbed the build; taxes in Canada are a pain in the ass! Man. Building this in the states woulda been cheaper for sure.

G.skill makes good ram. Nice deal there.

As for taxes... dude, you have a far better country to live in in general. Chances are we'll actually meet in person someday.

As far as Starcraft II goes, My old Pentium 4 w/Radeon 4650HD manages to max that out and still run @ 30FPS... and no, I am not kidding. Though my main PC is an i7 based laptop.

The only thing I would change in that build is that I'd swap your GPU for the AMD 6950 HD... the price is almost identical and it's somewhat more powerful. The ones I saw benchmarked run a little hotter than the GTX 560 ti, but they do run a bit faster. Myself, I recommend the Sapphire one. The cooling is well done on it.

If you're planning to overclock your GPU though, I'd stay with the 560. It runs cooler and OC's better, too.

You had max settings above 30FPS in 4v4 with tons of armies running around fighting each other with that? Yeah, right.

You pretty much get 2x HDD speed, setting up at a later date is not recommended since you'd need a fresh install again, big difference in performance though. The only down side is I have a HDD dedicated to backing it up every week or so while I sleep so it's a simple matter of restoring the HDD in case the raid array goes bad. Not that backing up your data isn't a standard practice for a lot of people anyways.

You could also make use of the Z68's Intel Smart Response right? I suppose you'd get more performance, though with an SSD it might be more expensive.

SSD is too much money, performance vs cost doesn't add up with consumer level hardware compared to the cheaper solution yet, the level of hardware he's getting is obviously not for an enthuist build.

don't even worry about it, these CPUs can OC to 4.5 with stock cooler in a lot of cases, you can easily run 4 without even trying.


Won't the CPU run quite hot? I think it's better to buy an aftermarket cooler if one plans to overclock in the future. 

Plus what's the point of buying a "k" processor if you don't want to overclock. Might as well get a 2500 then.

My goal is to max out Starcraft II (bahahaha) and run Witcher 2 at 1080p with some bells and whistles on. Will this build suffice?

Nice build! What 560 ti are you getting? Also make sure the ram is 1.5v or less.

That's what I thought :P

The thing is that SC2 looks almost as good on Low settings. And it doesn't need 30fps to look and play smoothly, more like 15-20.

And on that, 4v4 is smooth on my five-year-old Intel integrated graphics on my laptop. So essentially any computer made in the last 5 years can play SC2 to its full gameplay potential.
