Forums - Sales - Wii vs. PS3 EMEAA VS. Wii vs. X360 Americas

Who will reign victorious?

Wii will beat both of them 22 31.43%

PS3 will sell more in EME... 10 14.29%

360 will sell more in Ame... 10 14.29%

PS360 will beat Wii in th... 28 40.00%

Total:70

In regards to PS3 Vs. Wii, here's a good way of looking at it. Sony are projecting 15 million for the fiscal year. Nintendo are projecting 12, and I'm not even entirely convinced that they'll make that but let's assume they do. More than likely the PS3's advantage for the year in Japan will be either on par or just marginally smaller than the Wii's advantage will be in the Americas. That means the rest of the 3 million difference between their projections will be in EMEAA.

not sure how it will turn out.

it seems Americas will help 360 steal this holiday season but Wii may pull the wool over our eye as it has done many times before.

it's likely given the current situation PS3's EMEAA and 360 Americas will cancel out with PS3 taking home the win this yr.

Let's see here...

In EMEAA, between the PS3 & Wii.

Current Gap: 10m
Gap at end of 2011: 8.5m in Wii's favor.

  • PS3 will likely continue to outsell the Wii marginally until the holiday kicks in. Both the PS3 and Wii will get price cuts.
  • The PS3 will most likely outsell the Wii this holiday, but the Wii won't be too far behind due to its nature of being a holiday seller.

Gap at the of 2012: 5.0m in Wii's favor.

  • The PS3 will get off strong because of the price cut coming off the holidays. It will also stay pretty consistent due to Sony's continuous effort into emerging markets. It could potentially have its best year ever in this region due price cuts and emerging markets.
  • The Wii will drop dramatically due to saturation and the Wii U releasing. Nintendo will keep it moderately relevant with aggressive price cuts. The Wii will probably do slightly less than what it does in the Americas.
  • I have the PS3 at 8.0m with the Wii at 4.5m

Gap at the end of 2013: 0.5m in PS3's favor.

  • The PS3 should still be able to do moderate sales due to low price and emerging markets. It should be quite popular among smaller nations.
  • The Wii is officially dead here due to the Wii U and PS3.
  • I have the PS3 at 6.5m and Wii at 1.0m

I Americas, between X360 and Wii....

Current gap: 9.0m
Gap at end of 2011: 8.0m in Wii's favor.

  • 360 likely to continue strong until the holiday where the Wii steps up and sells head to head with it.
  • The 2011 gap will probably be around 1.5m leaving the overall gap at around 8.0m.

Gap at end of 2012: 5.0m in Wii's favor.

  • The 360 will probably sell pretty decent next year coming off a price cut from the past holiday. It'll sell decently, but it won't be enough to have its best year ever due to saturation.
  • The Wii will probably sell around 5.0m do to aggressive price drops by Nintendo. Not good, but not too terrible considering the release of the Wii U.
  • I see X360 at 8.0m with Wii at 5.0m.

Gap at the end of 2013: 0.5m in Wii's favor.

  • MS will start dropping the price of the 360 to obscenely low prices to combat dropping sales. It should be good enough to keep sales moderate before the 720 releases. Microsoft should still be happy with the 360 due to profit gained from LIVE.
  • The Wii will drop to nearly nothing with the Wii U out.
  • I see X360 at 5.5m with the Wii at 2.0m

Gap at the end of 2014:

  • The 360 will likely catch the Wii this year.

Year PS3 / Wii gap (yearly sales) X360 / Wii gap (yearly sales)
2011 Wii by 8.5m  Wii by 8.0m
2012 Wii by 5.0m (PS3: 8.0m, Wii: 4.5m) Wii by 5.0m (X360: 8.0m, Wii: 5.0m)
2013 PS3 by 0.5m (PS3: 6.5m, Wii: 1.5m) Wii by 0.5m (X360: 5.5m, Wii: 2.0m)
2014
X360 wins here

Wii won't even even get close to their projection. Expect another projection adjustment in October to 11 m and to 10m in January with final result dropping below 10 for FY2011.

So PS3 should get 3-4M back in Emea after pricecut.

Both will outsell the Wii in their regions. Although the PS3 might do it first unless Wii gets some huge holiday boost there like last year.

PS3 will overcome Wii

360 will not as 720 soon after WiiU's launch

none will happen anytime soon though

people can't seem to grasp how big a 35million gap really is. The wii isn't going to magically selling nothing when the wii u comes out. Their prices alone means they target different audiences.

I would say both consoles have a 1 in 3 chance of passing the wii in their strongest region.

I think both have a shot. I think the PS3 is most likely to do so as I think demand for the 360 will fall quicker when the new Xbox releases than when a PS4 releases, but 360 has a good chance too.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

While I don't think PS3 will pass Wii WW, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets relatively close (within 5-10 million). And while I don't think Wii will simply stop selling once Wii U comes out I don't think it will be around for too long afterwords. As I mentioned above, I'm thinking it will be out of production by late 2013 or early 2014. It simply doesn't have the SW support necessary to keep it going. One of its only 3rd party exclusives just went multiplat (Just Dance) and it looks like Kirby and Skyward Sword are going to be its firt-party swan songs. After them the ONLY major release on the horizon is Dragon Quest X.
