Simple Question. Do you think the Xbox brand would be more Successful/Better without the live fee??
with out the fee i do not think the original xbox would have had the online capabilities it had and there for would not have been as big of a hit and the online capabilities of this gen would also be less robust as they would not ahve made all of the progress in the previous gen again hurting an advantage that they had at the begining of the gen over their competitors.
No way one of the things that has made the 360 so popular this generation is its incredible online service. If people weren't paying a subscription fee for it Live wouldn't be as well developed or have near as many features as it does. Paying for Live has given them the revenue to make Xbox Live the premiere destination for online console gameing.

While I would never buy a Microsoft system the reason why I said yes is because I would never again pay for online gaming on home consoles (I did way back for Phantasy Star Online on GC; one of the few games that GC had for online). The online experience on the Wii was good enough for me this generation (FC for each game was annoying but that was about the only issue I saw, and they are making it just 1 system code now). While live has many things that Nintendo WiFi doesn't; I am sure Nintendo will match most of what live offers with the Wii U online service for free. I just see no point in paying for online console gaming.
No, if there was no fee then I think Xbox Live would be of a much lower quality and therefore lose one of its biggest advantages over the PS3.
Now if Xbox Live was the same quality, but no fee (highly unrealistic) then sure, Xbox 360 could possibly have a lot more sales right now. Microsoft would be missing out on millions of dollars though, which would be money they could use to buy exclusive content for games, or purchase game studios.
free live would probably boost xbox 360 sales, but it would make the xbox less successful because it would be less profitable. =)

Absolutely. MS made a great move for having people pay for XBL. Kept me from buying the console, but still a great move for the reasons you listed.
OT: No. I think it would be less successful in the long run especially for the reasons Kowenicki listed.
