Forums - Gaming Discussion - Which is better - xbox achievements or ps3 trophies?

Which do you prefer?

Trophies 127 49.80%

Achievements 80 31.37%

Both 15 5.88%

Neither 23 9.02%

Im an idiot 10 3.92%

Total:255

Trophies because on a quick look you see how many games a person has platinum'ed off the bat without digging much. Achievements are nice and the original idea but requires a little digging to see if someone truly completed a game or how much of it due to the 1100/1000 type of achievements out there.

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

Only one was always going to be there, wasn't an after thought and is integrated in every game on it's host system and into the fabric of the system itself. The other one is obviously tagged on, has a cumbersome and idiosyncratic syncing system, and rather importantly..... isn't in all of the games on said system.

But that's just my opinion.

your opinion on this topic isnt surprising in the least tbh.

Between those two's, trophies seem much appealing to me.

IMO any sad person who didnt press both is obviously insecure. They do the same thing.

The only difference is it was MS idea. Other than that niether is better. They mean the same thing. How big is your d**k.

Achievements.

This big reason, every game has them. I want to be credited to gaining points for games before 2009, and I don't want to be forced to replay Uncharted to get the trophies through a patch.

Other reasons:

-Achievements are better organized.
--Trophies feel like experience points used to level up. The higher the level the more experience you need to level up again. After you get to a certain point, you loose motivation to level up. I prefer milestones set by achievements (10,000k, 50,00k, 100,00k), that way I know how much every game is worth from day one.
--Different games have different number of trophies. There is no direct way to compare my progress in one game to another. There is a percentage completion, but nowhere does it say how many % each trophy is worth.

--Trophies need to be synced. They are not updated automatically like achievements.

-Games with Zero points can be deleted

-Achievements have a more predetermined value. If a game has 10 trophies, the gold in that game is worth much more then the gold in a game with 50 trophies, and there is no value system awarded to trophies.

-Achievements are also organized by date obtained. When comparing PS3 trophies, you can't do that.

-Achievements also unlock Avatar Awards

However, there is one flaw with achievements. To complete a game, you must get all the achievements in the DLS's as well. It's nice when you plan on getting the DLC, but it sucks when you don't. This is the only time I see trophies as better.

Trophies. This argument is old and has been settled a long time ago. Look at the voting results, and read the comments. So much more satisfaction comes from gaining Trophies.

Anoying popups. Most achievements and thropies are meaningless. I bet most gamers are using youtube and they are proud because they have 1000 or platted a game. Lolz.

Wich is better? mmmm... i answered both, it could also be neither that would make no difference.... So wich is better?.As a ps3 owner it would make no sense if i say xbox achievements... duh. Both are ways to show others what your game progress is and or what your skills are, when you go for the full package, i mean, getting all the trophies / achievements or at least as much as you can. that will separate the hardcoregamer from the casual gamer who has just a few %  ........... But what more important is, i think. and that only counts for the trophies / achievements  that more needs, then a simple playthrough. that is how to fully control and experience the game as the developers want it to be. To achieve every trophie/achievement it needs dedication, knowledge, skills and in some cases patience ( in a way it is showing your appreciation for the game and for everyone who worked on it)..............So the answer is both are good.

They are both awesome. Now everyone shut the hell up and complain about why the hell nintendo doesn't have em yet.

Maybe they should have friend points alongside the friend codes. Lol.

Seriously though, they really need to overhaul their whole friend code system to make something thats much more user friendly before they can get onto this. Maybe the Wii U???

Everyone has their own preference, and each system has it's own faults. I wouldn't go out and call trophies better. The votes aren't too extreme, and considering the substantially larger PS3 fanbase on this website, that says that people can prefer either.

I personally can not vote trophies because it's only been implemented since 2009, and it doesn't include old games I beat. Some games it mocks, had to beat Uncharted again for the trophies.
