Forums - Nintendo - GC games downloadable for Wii U's VC?!?

Destructoid has gone and asked NoA if this matter is true and they replied with the following

"To clarify the capabilities of the Wii U system: As correctly stated, Wii U will not play Nintendo GameCube discs, however Nintendo has not made any announcements regarding downloadable content."

So they aren't denying it. We'll just have to wait for them to officially announce it then…

Nintendo not denying definitely makes it a sure thing!

/sarcasm

edit: seriously though, is there a GC game with similar status to N64's Sin & Punishment, ie: new IP that could see release outside Japan for the first time?

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

I hope if they do bring in GC games, that they are the new 1,000 point games, and the rest are shifted down a category.

I suspect they'll be made available for 1,500 points though.

It's such an obvious evolution of their current online offerings, that it would be weird if it didn't come true. Their PR is also weird, if it's something coming I'd have talked about it already, but Nintendo isn't that straight forward... so many secrets... if you aren't releasing a title just tell us and stop dodging the question.

@milkyjoe: They'll keep the same prices, just like they've done with the eShop.. GC prices? 15-20 euros :S

VC was the first thing to be announced for Wii, before it had a name or anything.

The fact that they aren't announcing this already leaves me with some doubt. Another thing to remember is the size of these downloads, and the amount of storage space the Wii U will have.

For all I know they could end up going with compilations of old GC games released on disc...

Was it? Seems the Nintendo of before is different than the one of now. Has success gone to their head?

They already tried the NPC on the Wii, would they do that again on the Wii U? But to tell you the truth, I might prefer improved versions via compilations or downloads to be made available, but the VC route is the easiest and most obvious path. Game size problem would only exist if they haven't improved their online service since storage is expandable.

Roughly 1.5gb was the maximum for GC discs to hold, not the max for GC games as a whole.  Games that spanned multiple discs such as the Resident Evil Remake, Tales of Symphonia, MGS: Twin Snakes and Baten Kaitos all without doubt exceeded 1.5gb.

As for the HDD question, I don't think the WiiU has one.  I'm pretty sure Nintendo said that it will have 8gb flash and will but will expandable via SD card and USB.
