Forums - Nintendo - Are 3rd parties becoming dumb?

Crush3D is a new IP but it's getting delayed because of 3DS sales lacking?

We know for a fact that the best time to launch a new IP along with new platform where there are lack competition and stronger existing IP's aren't cabalising the sales.

Rumor: Crush3D getting delayed

July 18th, 2011 Posted in 3DS, Posted by Valay, Rumors

It appears that one developer is already expressing significant concern about the 3DS’ sales situation at the moment. Zoe Mode’s, originally set to be released in September, seems to have been delayed. Studio head Paul Mottram said the following about their game and the 3DS overall:

“…now we’re finding that everyone is not knowing what platform is going to succeed – we did our first 3DS title – we got Crush onto that, but we had to delay the release of that because of the success of the platform.”

The thing that makes this confusing is that, as far as we know, the title is still due out in a couple of months. SEGA hasn’t announced a delay or new release date, but we’ll keep you informed about the situation.

So.... they sound crazy the 3ds needs good games to keep it going waiting to release it only hurts their chances in the long run ah whatever.

Lets wait till Nintendo releases all their games that will sell millions. That way consumers can overlook our new game and mainly buy the Nintendo published games. Sounds pretty dumb in my opinion.

Yeah, launch now and it will get picked up by many who have not got any other options, rather than wait to be eaten by Mario

There is a certain risk-adverse nature of a lot of third party publishers, and by avoiding a risk to the extent that they do they often guarantee poor performance. For the most part third party publishers form a herd mentality and chase performance when the companies that lead the herd tend to be the only ones who are highly successful.

I believe that many companies try to release games based on projected sales of the console. Since Nintendo 3DS figures are WELL off the mark, companies are having second thoughts about release games on the consoles. This is not 1998 where Nintendo was the only mobile game in town, many developers have multiple avenues to release games. Sound business decision to me.

I agree with this

So for them waiting to either spruce it up for the PSV or dumb it down for mobile devices sounds like a better option?  The sales aren't really that off the mark of the DS launch.  DS didn't take off right away either.  It is a piss poor decision making to me.  It just seems like they don't have enough balls to release it.  Anyone that thinks the 3DS will not perform decently this holiday season (especially with all the Nintendo and other 3rd party games) shows they never really had faith in Nintendo.  To me they are just waiting till Nintendo release their games then they can release their game and blame Nintendo for eating their sales.  Makes perfect sense to me now.  3rd party companies like to complain that their usually sub par offering isn't selling because of Nintendo.  They would rather put the blame on anyone besides themselves.

Except, if the work has (more or less) already been completed, holding off to release the game will likely result in facing greater competition and having lower sales while not saving a penny in development costs.

To say "becoming" dumb, they would have had to be "not dumb" before this point, which we know isn't true.
