Do you think if Wii/Xbox 360 were launched at $599, they would be at PS3 numbers right now?

Wii yes, Xbox360 no. 16 12.70%

Wii no, Xbox 360 yes. 10 7.94%

Yes at both. 16 12.70%

Lol no. 66 52.38%

See results. 18 14.29%

Total:126

Well, the PS3 had Blu-ray, free online and a lot of brand loyalty so obviously the 360 couldn't have managed to do it with its features as they were.

The Wii neither at that price I believe, but they could drop the price pretty drastically later on and still be ahead.

basing it on what the console had at launch:
Wii: I think would be a little(like 3-5 mil) above the PS3 as I think their brandname is a litte stronger than Sony's
360: I'd think it be much lower(add that whole RROD fiasco and the 360 could've became the next dreamcast lol)

Honestly its a silly question, but I'll say this.. The Wii and 360 didnt launch at that price.. so history is built around that fact.  The question puts us in a pretend scenario that never occurred and thus makes it a worthless question..

Sony did to a 'small extent' help put MS's second generation system ( Xbox 360 ) in the hands of more consumers and this will help MS's 3rd generation (next Xbox) console in a couple years.. because anytime something cost more.. consumers will look for a close alternative at another ( lower ) price.  Besides Bluray, both systems are close in gaming quality.. AND MS has more 1080p movies for purchase then any video store at a cheaper price.. on top of that if you want to go even cheaper - you can rent the 1080p movie instead of buying it.. and if you want to go even cheaper you can download ( or rent ) the same movie at 480 ( standard television resolution ).. Either way its better then redbox because you dont have to leave home and you can buy -or- rent a 1080p movie cheaper then going to the store..  and its a good option because you cant buy HD movies from your cable company to keep..

Back to the original question... This happens with cars all the time.. People that like foreign cars will buy a Kia over a Honda if they save a few bucks on a  monthly car payment.. Camaro lowered the price of their V6 from like $26k to $24k when the 2011 Mustangs came out with the new engines that made them barely faster then the Camaro... Well Chevrolet had to lower the price of the Camaro.. Cuz the Mustang was only $22k..  How is this much different then buying a console ? You look at 'options' just like a car and what can be done..etc..

When consumers look at options they will settle for less of 'what they wont use much' .. if they pay less for 'what they actually want'...  In all things being equal the 360 and PS3 are pretty even on a gaming point of view.. most of the best games are on both consoles.. and both consoles have enough exclusives I suppose to matter.. other then that you have to look at cost.. I think the PS3's lower price is boosting it some now.. I expect 360 to have a cut sometime, but MS will keep tight lipped about it until then.. As all three consoles get closer to the end of their 'lives' you'll see prices drop more

lol no

MS did screw up in quality control testing, but they learned the hard way -by spending millions to fix 360's for free- that this likely wont happen again next generation.  Honestly, when mine went down it was disappointing, but the thing I liked the most is how they automatically extended any XB360 that had RROD to a 3 year warranty from the date of the RROD.. My Xbox 360 had a RROD.. they priority shipped a free box withfree priority shipping back and I received my Xbox back in about 10 days with a free month of Xbox Live Gold.. My xbox didnt fail again thankfully..

I read a funny review at bestbuy.com  ( seemed kinda like  trolling ).. the review was on the new XBOX 360 ... The person actually reviewed the bestbuy 'refurbished' 360...and said the 360 got the RROD... and its better to buy a new one.. only problem is the new 360's dont even have red LED's anymore.. so they not only get no 'ring of death' anymore ( now they flash a code - not a complete solid circle like the old ones ).. but now it is actually 'impossible' to even get a 'red ring' of death  because they have only GREEN light emitting diodes... LOL... Ok, to be fair there were similar reviews on the 'refurbished' PS3's that they froze, etc.. and that it was better to buy a new PS3...

Wii would be looking at Gamecube sales thinking how the hell it got that high and X360 would be easily outsold by PS3.

360, no.

Wii, yes.

No for both, but in different ways. The 360 would be below PS3 numbers and the Wii above them.

With all consoles launching at $599, who would have had the most room for panic pricecuts? Obviously Nintendo. They could have dropped the price by $200-300 two to three months after launch and leave the competitors in the dust, all the while staying in the black.

this

lol what a question they have different prices because they give us different stuff. with a blu-ray player xbox would cost more but then some people would have bought the xbox for the blu-ray player. without the player it wouldn't sell so good but yeah that's the reason it's cheaper.

same for wii + graphics difference.

and if all would be exactly the same price/player/graphics? then sony, ps2 is reason enough why ps3 would have won the "fight"

What if:
-The Xbox had sold 150+ million and the PS2 just 24 million
-The Xbox dominated in third party support while the PS2 relied on first party games
-The Xbox 360 had free online and the PS3 didn't
-The Xbox 360 had a built in Blu-Ray player while the PS3 had DVD

Now does anyone think the PS3 still would be at 50+ million now if the price of the console had remained the same? It seems like some people seem to think the PS3 has sold amazingly well for the price but I think the Xbox 360 would have done the same if it had the same advantages the PS3 had at launch.
