I don't think I even understand the OP. He makes a statement about taxes, then devolves into a cadre of issues that have less to do with taxes, and more to do with regulatory structure, and public policy which is revenue-neutral.

Ok, so let's look at your comment, and extend it beyond just cutting taxes.  Is there anything the elimination of laws and regulations can't fix?  If we remove all form and semblance of government would suddenly all the problems I mention go away?  Would there eventually be no teen pregnancy, no terrorism, no crime and no objectional programming on TV?  Would all children be fed and clothed?  Would we have 0% unemployment and the road and infrastructure would take care of itself?

Fals dichotomy. You assume it is either the current taxes/laws/regulations versus no taxes/laws/regulation.

Saying that there should be less taxes (unwise before cutting spending), less laws and less regulations is only a bird's eye view of things and does not imply that the taxes/laws/regulations should be the same but just scaled back.

You also keep adding stuff that are not proper governmental areas under the current US constitution, like censorship.

Taxes should be cut. It helps out the small businesses which are basically the workhorses of America. Then get rid of the nonsense progressive income tax. Tax brackets are a scam designed to punish those who are well off and reward those who make little. Everyone should pay the same percentage.

If that is done, will you GUARANTEE that there will never be an economic slowdown?  What happens the next round of economic slowdown and unemployment spikes again?

I see that you ask others to guarantee a lack of economic slowdown (a thing that is mathematically necessary) but do not do so yourself. It would be like Ford arguing for the Pinto by asking other manufacturers GUARANTEE that their cars cannot crash and burn.

What should happen is deficit spending should be illegal under the principle of "No taxation without representation" as deficit spending is taxing future taxpayers who do not have representation yet. The only two exceptions being war where your nation is under threat of invasion and possibly during recessions, NOT to distort the economy with the illusion of prosperity by borrowing (that would be like having a pay cut and covering it up by charging your credit card) but only if necessary to make sure displaced people who lost their jobs/house have enough food not to starve and a place where to stay until the economic adjustments are finished and investment (and thus jobs) restarts.

Note that if the government did that consistently, instead of having the usual recessions that are papered over with debt followed by a huge depression every 80 years (when the debt is too high to paper over) you would have recessions that are steeper (as there is no stimulus) and shorter (as the government doesn't try to smooth things out it degrades faster but it also means the necessary corrections happen sooner and the economy restarts growing sooner too).

For the record. Our Infant Mortality Rates aren't as high as they look.

The reason they look worse then then Europes is based on reporting.

In the US, any child born alive, that then dies is considered an Infant.

While in Europe, they have to meet certain weight and length requirements.

Well that and America has a higher rate of prematue births then most other countries.

Nothings gonna lower our infant mortality rate.

Look, if your argument is that he's been completely discredited and nobody takes him seriously, I'll just point to his huge blog visit numbers, how he's a professor at Princeton, his recent Gerald Loeb Award, etc.

But that's wayyyy off topic. I simply linked to him, since he gave a much better explanation. You can't fudge the facts and figures he posted on that blog.

On that same logic Fox News must be the best News site.  His blog is titled "The conscience of a Liberal"... I mean, he's admitting his bias before you even get to the articles.

Outside of which, what disproves his facts and figures is that well... he himself is fudging the facts and figures.

He brings in state taxes to try and make his arguement about federal taxes.  To bring up state taxes in a federal taxes arguement is disengenious since it isn't related.  Congress doesn't set local takes.

So yeah... wrong.

There is the Payroll tax, but that isn't really a tax so much as being forced into buying the governments awful healthcare and pension plans.  Outside that, it's all taxes that are given back at the end of the year.

Besides , should everybody be mad at the Obama healthcare law for being regressive?

As for why State's taxes are so regressive.  Blame federal income taxes being so high.

Or heck, look at Europe... the more widespread welfare funding becomes, the more regressive taxes get added because you can only go so far with income taxes.

spending cuts help but a balanced tax rate that changes with inflation would work wonders i think.
