Forums - Nintendo - Namco lies about why Tales of Graces isn't coming to the Wii in the West

Not directing this to anyone in particular, but if you want it so bad you can:

1) Buy a PS3 and the game
2) Play the fan translation on a modded Wii

Otherwise you don't want it bad enough and can STFU now.

As a Wii owner I would love to do this, but AFAIK the fan translation was canceled when Namco decided to localize the game officially. If I'm mistaken, please show me where to get a hold of it.

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

Not that we didn't know about it. The moment they said that Tales of graces F was getting localized, it was just too obvious. No way a third party company will be spending resources on a Wii game, when not either the HW manufacturer things it's worthwile. Nintendo themselves are setting the example that it's useless to make a core game. This is a great strategy as we get closer to the Wii U launch, I mean devs will be thrilled to launch or make core games for a console that apparently can't sell enough copies of a game on a 40+ million userbase. I'm sure they will chose Wii U over 360/HD...

This is true, but I think most people would not have assumed there was going to be a Wii version if Namco hadn't been so unclear about the platform(s) the game was coming to in the west. I don't remember the exact quote, but I do remember it gave the strong impression that ToG/F was releasing on more than one platform, and from there people jumped to the (not totally unreasonable) conclusion the other platform would be Wii. Of course, there could still be a Wii U or PSVita version being planned that we don't know of, but at the moment it seems like PS3 is the only system to get the game in the west, which makes Namco's initial statements seem rather weird...

Even if they didn't put the extra content, they could have just localized the Wii version itself and got a few extra sales.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Would have been easier to just say - "We don't want to make Wii games"

Probably would have got less abuse too. Seriously. If Nintendo don't even want to offer the Wii meaningful support, then why should 3rd parties take the risks?

If you want JRPGs (Or RPGs in general), go buy a PS3 and/or a 360.

First of all, that is a bullshit notion, that hasn't worked in ANY console war.

Second of all, you're still wrong. The DS and PSP are the RPG systems for this gen.

It's not bullshit at all, but thanks for thinking about it.

And no, I'm not wrong at all really. I never stated they were the better systems for RPG's, and this is a thread about the Wii... A home console. The portables are also lacking on variety, as the vast majority of RPG's on them are niche JRPG's. With the home consoles, you get a nice mix of both, hence I said "RPG's in general) ...

Yes it is. People aren't going to rush out and buy the systems just because you wrote that. Unless you don't think they are going to, in which case, why write it at all?

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I'm pretty sure I agree with you on that, but it doesn't make my statement "bullshit". I think if you love RPG's then you need to own a PS3 and/or a 360 to compliment whatever scraps are getting released on the Wii Worldwide.

mmm...

  • Disaster
  • Fatal Frame 4
  • Xenoblade
  • The Last Story
  • Pandora's Tower

And now the third parties join the club...

360, yes, but Wii certainly doesn't have less RPGs than the PS3. I would say none of the current home consoles really are good RPG systems though. The genre seems to have migrated to the portable systems.

Harsh but true, Nintendo haven't bothered to bring any decent JRPG's to the Wii. Hell even the XBOX 360 managed it, even if it was down to Microsoft's wallet. PS3 is finally living up to its expectations in this genre too looking at the line-up for 2011 / 2012.

Nintendo is screwing its own customers, I don't think NoA have written off all the games from operation rainfall yet, but if they never see the light of day in America then I think there needs to be some retaliation. Wii-U boycotting anyone?
