Forums - Sony - Sony to start production of PS4,late 2011

I really doubt it, they would not start making it now, and 20m units is far too large for a console launch, unless they are being stupid, as the longer they wait, the cheaper components will be

If true, that 20 Million will be both PS3 and PS4.

I also doubt they will focus the console around PS Eye/Kinect tech.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is a major push from the launch of their next console ...

Outside of pushing new technology, Sony rarely brakes new ground with their systems and it is highly likely that they will push a new user interface that is based off of something that is already popular with consoles. I wouldn't be too surprised to see the PS4 launch with or along side a Kinect/PS-Move hybrid system

I could understand them giving an option for having a PS Move/Kinect Upgraded hybrid thing, but not actually building the console around it.

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised either way ...

While Sony and Microsoft agressively targeted the core gamer in the current generation of console, I expect both companies to aim for a broader audience with their next system; and this could translate into (just about) anything.

Im pretty surprised at this news if its true. I always thought that ps4 would release after xbox720, and especially considering the 10 year ps3 lifetime sony management have been going on about.

maybe they wanted first release advantage

and the 10year cycle is like PS1,PS2's 10 year cycle in which they overlap the new console,in 2012 PS3 will be 6 years old

Ummm what do you mean dude? Did you already forget that the PS2 released around PS1's like 5th year on the market? Yet the support still continued for nearly 10+ years? Did you also forget that PS3 released also around PS2's 5th or 6th year yet at nearly the 11th year PS2 still gets support (now it's less but several games still come out), therefore this would still fall in line with Sony's 10 year plan.

Sony didn't really support the PSX much after the release of the PS2, or the PS2 after the release of the PS3. If Sony meant that the system would still be available for 10 years, just like almost every other major console released, then that is pretty lame. They did say that the PS3 would have a 10 year lifespan, and followed up by saying that it was much longer than the PS2 and PSX. Essentially it was an excuse to justify the high retail price, because it would be 10 years before the next system would be released, so getting it now for that price would be a nice 10 year investment. If the PS4 comes out next year, then the PS3 becomes obsolete in 6 years rather than 10.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
