Forums - Nintendo - Playing PAL games on NTSC (Homebrew-enabled) Wii. Will it work?

I hope this is okay to discuss.  I'm only using Homebrew for imports and not piracy at all.  I think Region coding is absolute crap (only punishes honest consumers) and I have no ethical qualms about softmodding or hardmodding to get around that ridiculous scheme.

So I guess I'll be importing Xenoblade PAL version when it comes out and I would like to know if I'm going to have issues loading it up on my NTSC homebrew enabled Wii?  Thanks.  Of course unless Operation Rainfall is a success and the release date isn't too far off from the Euro release date.

But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

you should have no trouble booting up the game after modding your Wii, unless the game comes with a new type of security but i highly doubt it.

Wii/Mario Kart Wii Code:2793-0686-5434

My softmodded Wii (Still V. 3.4u) has no issues playing PAL titles. Of course that is after I copy the disc to the HDD with USB loader.

Not 100% sure if it works right off the disc.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Alright. Thanks alot. I have no problem with Japanese imports - but it is still NTSC. I was just wondering if the 50 HZ for PAL would make a difference since the Wii is still an SD console.

The worst that can happen is a rolling picture in black & white. :P
But I think it will be fine.

Hopefully it works fine, I intend to do the same thing.

I personally need to know if importing tips? Europe to Canada. Any websites or places to look.

That was my next question. Where is the best place to import from Europe?

So you haven't imported a thing? My European Wii played US games fine from the disc, the console is only region locked by software.

PAL games are now normally made in both 50 and 60 Hz, so that shouldn't be a problem... only bad localizations come in 50 Hz, no 480p option. When this happens, then you know what it feels like to be from PAL. But as you know, the tides are changing!

I made a thread some months ago for European online shops, I only checked which ones shipped for free around Europe, but you are welcomed to try for Canada, and tell me so I can add those to the OP

How about DVD's? I bought Jean Claude Van Dammes : Behind Closed Doors from the UK and while I can watch it on my computer I cannot watch it on my 200 freaking dollar DVD player. Also it is sad that Nintendo owners are forced to do this. Now we all see why Emeaa is usually so low with sales.

I can tell you I recently modded my 4.3U Wii, and have no trouble whatsoever playing PAL (ie: region 2) DVDs on it with WiiMC.

In fact, getting that to work has been a lot easier for me than actually playing PAL games on the thing, which I have yet to achieve.

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!
