Forums - Gaming - What do you think of people who Quit Gaming because they want to "grow up"?

I've got 2 friends who told me they wanna quit gaming to do more important things in life like find a girlfriend. That was 5 years ago. Both of them now are still virgin.

What do you think of people like that.

Or people who purposely stop gaming even though they enjoy it very much because its the matured thing to do, but they play rubbish games on Facebook.

I'd also like to say that some of my friends who are around my age (30) still game, and are pretty good at gaming, and they are dating or married.

I also have a friend who's like 24 who say that people who game "haven't grown up". He's pretty hard up to get a girlfriend and is still unsuccessful after many years.

I'd like to hear your inputs.

Goes to show how absolutely stupid they are and I apologize because you do consider them your friends. Gaming like everything else is a hobby. When you revolve your entire social life around the times you raid in WoW or EQ, then you have a bit of a problem. However, if you are able to game like people go home and watch Prison Break, Seinfeld, or any other show, then there is nothing wrong with it. I am not a Casanova by any means but I was able to do high end raiding in EQ (EverQuest) while still going to Albona (Croatian bar/lounge in NY) or Coliseo (Spanish nightclub) and being successful at doing what I had to do. I was never afraid of stating that I was a gamer because I simply kept a balance with my social life. In the end, when a hobby CONTROLS YOU REGARDLESS of what it is, THAT is when you need to grow up. For example I love US football and I follow the NY Giants but I don't base my life off it, meanwhile I had "manly" and "grownup" acquaintances who were only focused on that and either lost girlfriends or have had a huge strain on their relationships.

In the end, the next time someone tells you "I quit gaming because I am growing up", just laugh at them and go on with your life. You have a hobby, you embrace it and along with it you enjoy life, that sounds grown up enough to me.
P.S. I still game with my gf of nearly 4 years and going strong (am 30), my older brother is 40 executive director of sales operations for a major corporation in the US (cannot disclose more info for obvious reasons) and he games (married 2 kids).

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

multi-tasking, it's the wave of the future.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

how the fuck have they not had girlfriends at that age already? O_O;;;;;;;

Don't mean to offend your friends, but I think it's stupid.
Gaming itself is not childish. You can still game even if you "grow up".

What I want to know is... do they think that married people or people in relationships don't play video games?

I've got a friend who says he stops playing video games because he says that girls think that gaming is a turn off.

What I feel is that, if you revolve your decisions around what can get you laid or not, you're a damn big loser. Yes I'm calling some of the people I know losers.

I have actually gotten into many arguments about "Being too old to play video games".

It usually goes something like this:

Them: "Aren't you too old to still play video games?"

Me: "What do you mean?"

Them: "Games are for kids, you should have grown out of that a long time ago."

Me: "Eh, I don't know. However, I do know that I grew out of worrying about what other people do with their spare time."

Them: "Dude, no need to be an asshole, I am just telling you the truth."

Me: "As am I."

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Some people just feel that it is much more mature and "adult-like" to go out dancing, drinking and sleeping around.

Hey, if that's what they want to do, more power to them, I could care less.

I just hate when people tell me that I am not living life properly because I don't conform to the lifestyle they choose to live.

I pity people like that.

I just feel sorry for the gamers who spend time gaming instead of with their family. So many times on PSN you can hear little kids and babies screaming in the back, its disgusting to think these people play games instead of raising their children.

Since we're talking about EX-gamers who think that gaming is childish, I'd like to talk about my experience with NON-GAMERS who think that gaming is childish.

Scenario 1
I was playing Starcraft. I selected a marine.
Marine " YOU WANT A PIECE OF ME, BOY?"
Mum "EDMUND!! ARE YOU WATCHING PORN??!!!"

Scenario 2

Many years ago I was playing Fifa 2003 on my PS2 during christmas. Please bear in mind how bad Fifa 2003 looked.

Auntie "OH MY GOD!!! THESE PEOPLE....THEY LOOK SO REAL...OMG...EDMUND ARE THEY REAL PEOPLE??? OH MY GOD HOW DO YOU MAKE ALL THESE PEOPLE MOVE??? OMG THEY ARE REAL PEOPLE RIGHT??"

Scenario 3 (Non-gaming related)

I was watching/streaming an Anime (Naruto). Several years back, people who download Anime illegally had to pay a hefty fine, so my dad apparent read about that in the papers, so he said.

"EDMUND!!! WHY ARE YOU WATCHING ANIMAL!!"

how the fcuk does one watch Animal?? o_0

Scenario 4 (Happened 7-8 years ago)

I sneaked downstairs at 3am to play Battlefield 1942.

*Gun shot sounds, sounds of grenades exploding going on*

Parents ran downstairs to the living room
"EDMUND ARE YOU WATCHING PORN???!!!"

*Dad ran and put his face 1 cm away from the monitor.*

(At that time there was a documentary about teenagers and young adults being addicted to porn, my parents happen to watch it, so everything I watch, be it documentaries or even playing games would be porn to them)
