Forums - Gaming - Skyrim- the erosion of a once great series

Am I a terrible person for thinking most of that actually sounds good? Oblivion was full of clutter. A little streamlining won't do it any harm.

I mean:

"no medium armor, no mysticism, no hand-to-hand, no atheltics, and no acrobatics"

Is that REALLY bad? It means no more jump spamming and summon skeleton spamming to level up.

I remember Fallout 3 getting the same kind of idiotic bitching from some people before it was released and look at how that turned out, one of the best reviewed and received WRPGs of all time. I'm willing to bet that Skyrim will get a similar reception.

It will sell millions, and probably be considered GOTY. But that doesn mean its good.

For who the people who say they want it streamlined and easy, why not just go play an fps? Its basically what you want.

I don't mind the NPC romances...but everything else...just wow.

Thank god Dark Souls isn't heading this way.

Dark Souls will be GOTY... quote me on this...

Especially after the crap listed in the OP. How is that ANY good?

Xenoblade will be GOTY.

You forgot to put /s at the end of your sentence.

It is another rpg so I am happy. Thank god it isnt another fps.

Or they could have taken another route that would also avoid jump and summon skeleton spamming such as you level up an attribute, you get even less exp per action, kinda like every modder did for Oblivion. But I understand Bethesda's line of thought, that would have been much of an hassle and modders will eventually put that system in place in Skyrim.

Vanilla Oblivion was indeed full of clutter, but with the right mods (which Added things, they didn't streamline anything or removed anything) it became a bliss, even surpassing Morrowind in a lot of aspects.

If all this turns out to be true, then I'll wait for the inevitable mods that will allow some of these features. Vanilla Oblivion had also tons of content removed in comparison to Morrowind, yet a lot of it has been restored via mods such as FCOM, Warcry, Midas and so on.

Why do modders have to do the work? =( Ah well, better than nothing, I suppose.

I agree with you that modders shouldn't be the ones with the burden of bettering a game, but unfortunately that has been so for a long, long time.

I had 2 gamesaves for Oblivion on my YLOD PS3. One with 300 hours of playtime and one with 120 hours of playtime. I'm also gonna replay the game again sometime this summer. I'm a hugh fan of oblivion and everything I've heard about Skyrim sounds great. The acrobat skill in Oblivion was rediculous and you could jump 20 feet in the air so that won't be missed but I loved how you could run fast in TES4 so I'm sceptical about the athletic ability.

You forgot to mention the game has perks so it may have less skills compared to ES4 but it has added perks. How does the game look like Fallout. It runs on a newer engine than fallout and fallout looks horrible. This game looks great from what I've seen. In my opinion towns were to big in ES4 and my time was spent exploring the terrain and dungeons so I'm glad towns got smaller, it means I won't be running around towns doing boring quests like the town quests in ES4. Wait until the game releases before you make opinions like this. The game is gonna be great

Yeahhh whatever, that kinda logic is so flawed I hope you edit your post to hide it before more people read this.

As Skyrim is streamlined and I'm ok with it....so I hould now go n play my least fav genre, the FPS as by some odd logic FPS is what I really want!

*extended cackle*

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Dumbing things down helps sales, that's just how it is unfortunately. Words like "streamlined" are just red herrings to this trend.
