Forums - General - UPDATE Man Faces Minimum 1 Year in Prison for Bringing Manga to Canada On His Laptop

@fordy:

No, it's really not. You're speaking in the equivalent that playing GTA would turn people into murderers. You can't just say rules apply to one group and not the other just to justify your stance. That's blantant ignorance right there.

I never said lolicon turns people into paedophiles. I said someone who would enjoy lolicon is a paedophile to begin with.

Yes, and the only threatening pedophiles out there are the ones who DO commit the abuse, not the entire community of pedophiles. Stop outcasting an entire group based on the bad ones within the group.

The entire group of paedophiles is a potential danger,. Paedophilia is a mental illness, but the majority of paedophiles don't consider that they have any problem, or that there's anything wrong with the ideea of having sex with a child (considering that they're insanse, this isn't a surprise), which means they rarely voluntarily seek any treatment.

Do you really care what someone THINKS as opposed to what someone DOES? Do you really think that people's thoughts should be policed, because your argument is treading in that very direction.

It's not as much as thoughts that's the problem (though FTR, planning to murder someone, or planning to commit a terrorist attack are also illegal, even if you're just in the plannign stage, ergo "just thinking"), as the involuntary impulses that lead to those thoughts, impulses controlled by a mental illness.

Oh, sorry, I was under the impression what you said applied to any non-adult person, so I see that part of my post really has nothing to do with what you said. But all we know from the OP is he was arrested for child porn in manga form. I though any minor would classify as child porn.

Still, I understand that the profile of these people who rape children would be mentally ill, but can that be generalised to anyone being turned on by the fantasy of it? What's the ratio between just enjoying fictional porn of the kind and actually abusing children? There doesn't seem to be a correlation between the two in different cultures according to statistics shown here. Now I'm the first to say this kind of "analisys" is not very conclusive, but it certainly doesn't seem to hint at your assumption.

I'm not sure what the laws are, but really, andy porn depicting pubesent children isn't "child porn". It's illegal to depict minors (because minors cannot legally give consent to participate in such a movie in the first place), but only porn depicting pre-pubescent kids is "child porn".

Actually, you have to differentiate from the act of molesting a child and paedophilia. Paedophilia is a mental illness, and it implies sexual attraction towards pre-pubescent children. Not all child molesters are paedophiles, and not all child molesters are crazy. Any person turned on by the ideea of having sex with a pre-pubescent child (which would mean children 13 and younger) is a paedophile. Most paeodophiles usually end up abusing children, and because they're mentally ill, you cannot assume they can control themselves.

Questions

-I have a fast car, I love working on it to make it even faster. I also love playing Need For Speed, Burnout, and watching Movies like Fast and the Furious, and Gone in 60 Seconds.

Does this mean I will go out and steal cars or street race?

Not the slightest chance. I don't want to do either, because it is not good for me, or others.

-I have multiple guns, and knives around my house. I have a PS3, a 360, and a PC. I love playing violent games. I like the feel and sensation of blowing a character away with a shot gun, of or slicing them up with a machete.

Does this mean I am going to go slice up a bunch of people? Does it mean I am going to go snipe some real people for fun?

Again, no. There is a difference between an act against a real person and a drawing, or a 3D model.

-Last question. My dad loves war history. He reads it, watches it, and talks it about it all the time.

Does this mean my father loves war? Is he going to go out and join the army so he can be part of the action?

Not at all. My dad does not get war. He respects the men that have fought for good cause, but he does not wish new wars to start. He has interest in the thought process and actions taken on the battlefield. He just loves seeing though the eyes of people in that situation. However, he himself would never even consider being in the armed forces.

The three above topics each include many illegal, unjust, or inhuman thoughts and actions. Steel, shooting, stabbing, plotting, killing, and indirectly harming anyone or anything is never good, no matter the situation. Yet we understand that even though the above teach evil, and evoke excitement and pleasure from terrible situations, they are art, or history. They are not real, and they only give us a window to a world that allows us to live our crooked fantasies. The action take or viewed in movies, books, games, or pictures is not to be repeated in real life.

Finally, whether we want to admit it or not, thoughts that are against the societal norm exist in each and every one of us. It is these thoughts that lead to great good, and great evil. Every piece of art is based on thoughts. My view is that all thoughts should be allowed the same right. I could go so far off topic, and continue for days, but the point is cartoon child porn has the same rights as every other art form or expression.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

It's stupid, the guy was probably reading K-ON and now his life is destroyed. Hopefully he get's out of this whole mess, even if it was lolicon, he shouldn't be sent to prison for looking at pictures of drawings. Anyone that disagrees is a fool, they know who they are.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Porn is not art. It's jerk off material.

I'm having a hard time agreeing with this, because we don't know what the fuck people are planning in their head.  So whether or not it is actually illegal (which I doubt just having thoughts in your head is illegal, for the reason that we have no evidence to back it up).  If you try saying that it is, I would absolutely LOVE for you to find a criminal case where somebody was found guilty, where the ONLY evidence was thoughts inside of their head.  The same with a terrorist attack.  Nobody will ever be found guilty for solely having thoughts inside of their head.  If they were, you would see a MASSIVE percentage of the population going to jail, because the fact of the matter is, people have stray thoughts that they may not necessarily ever intend on acting on.

Regardless, these examples cannot be compared to watching manga.  Manga is outside of somebody's brain.  So rather than having absolutely no evidence, other than one's thoughts, this provides at least SOME evidence.  I'm not saying with this alone it should go one way or another, but you can't compare these things.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.
