Forums - Gaming - Namco: Microsoft Paid for Western Tales of Vesperia Exclusivity

"the same way as Sony paid for having Heavy Rain only on PS3. It's just one way the business works, sadly."

Wow, the women doesn't have her facts right. Sony published the game, they did not pay for exclusivity. David cage also said QD will continue to make games exclusively for Sony. I wish Sony would just buy the company.

SON¥ might be paying Namco Bandai to keep Dark Souls PS3 exclusive in Japan. Imagine that!

Is this sarcasm?

instead of paying for exclusives they should MAKE exclusives.
paid exclusivity is a waste of money.

yupp...his comparison was just way off...

Just fucking great...

I kept my 360 versions, waiting for an eventual PS3 release, but I guess it is never to be.

Great fucking move there Namco... -_-

Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo are doing what they have to do to sell their hardware and it's all right.

It's Namco who is to blame in Tales of Vesperia's case. Greedy fools. And I use the term greedy very loosely as there's a high possibility they would have made more money in the long run by releasing Tales of Vesperia on the PS3 and building a fanbase for the next Tales of which is coming exclusively on the PS3.

Microsoft should invest in game development instead of exclusivity. Gamers are not winning out of those kind of deals. With that said, none of the companies are to blame, its legal business. It all comes down to the consumers to choose what they encourage.

I always thought Bamco just couldn't be bothered to localize the PS3 version, when in fact it's Microsoft's fault I'll never get to play this game - DAMN YOU Microsoft. I hate this cock blocking of gamers - that's the kind of 3rd party exclusive I don't want to see anymore.

There are basically 3 kinds of 3rd party exclusives:

1) the console manufacturer funds the whole game

2) the 3rd party decides on their own - based on hardware capabilities, difficulty of development etc. (e.g. game X can only be on the Wii because of motion controls, game Y can only be on PS3 because it requires lots of space or game Z can only be on Xbox360 because it's made for Kinect - stuff like that)

3) financial benefits from console manufacturer to 3rd party - mostly resulting in timed exclusives (FF XIII in Japan or Mass Effect 2)

Number 1) and 2) are okay. Number 3) however sucks for us gamers, since we gain nothing from it. It doesn't create new/more games. It doesn't create better games. All it does is excluding a certain demographic from getting to play a game.
If the big 3 want to spend money to get an exclusive title, I'd rather have them fund a new game than pay money to stop a game from releasing on a competitors console.

Can't stop me, fuckers.
Importing from Japan this week.

Your absolutly right and #3 has been very apparent this gen more so than i ever remember and it seems like a waste of money for in most cases very little gain apart for 1 up manship, i hope the industry as a whole can start to move away from this standpoint but with rising costs of producing games and the mentality of the big 3 (more so microsoft this gen) willing to throw there cash around i can only see it getting worse next gen
