Forums - Sales Discussion - May NPD - Wii 236k, 3DS 97k, X360 270k, PS3 177k, L.A. Noire 899k

I just ran some figures, and based on hardware sales revenue, and the fact that PSP was up over May 2011 on its price cut we can conclude figures were something like this:

X360 - 270,000

Wii - 236,000

DS - 180,000 (roughly - plus or minus 20,000)

PS3 - 177,000

3DS - 97,000

PSP - 80,000 (roughly - but known to be over 59,000 and likely under 90,000)

PS2 - 20,000 (could be less, probably not under 10,000, less than 1% of hw revenue regardless so it doesnt matter)

I checked on PS2 and also realized that after passing 35m, it only topped 200,000 units per month in 10 non-holiday months. Wii is at 35.67m, and since reaching 35m, has already topped 200,000 / month twice. The USA market is larger than in the PS2 era, but PS2 never topped 200,000 in a non-holiday month after March 2008, when its base reached 41.7m.

Wii should be back to 350k - 450k in June (five weeks) which is pretty solid.

The Wii has outdone the PS2 in the US in about any stats you present though, it just that much stronger this Generation.

That article is kind of annoying. Wii should spike up like crazy at year end again once Zelda, Kirby, Just Dance 3, Zumba 2, and the price cut / Mario Kart bundle all coalesce. Wii has also had 70 or so games release in 2011, in addition to the 900 or so in 2006-2010 - its not like PSP at all which has had 15 games release in 2011. Game releases are what sustain price cuts. I just checked the figures and Wii is at 85% of 2007 levels in 2011 in the USA market. June / July should be pretty similar in 2007 / 2011. Total sales in August - October in 2011 will be down on 2007, but if Wii is at 250k - 300k in October I don't see why it can't spike back to 900k (Zelda) and then 1.8m or so in December.

Wii U is still way out - sure as hell isn't coming in March 2012 when its confirmed for after that time frame already. It could be June 2012, but its hard to believe it would be earlier than that. Think about when the price cut came - it was likely designed to prevent sales from collapsing for about another year.

VGchartz did a good job last month then, 37K off 3DS though, not too shabby.

You may be right there, 300K at least for Wii in June,  where did you get 35.67M are you just multiplying americas numbers by 0.87?  good analysis overall.
