Forums - Gaming - So Duke Nukem forever ends up being a big dissapointment?

Seriously? Thsi game was slated to be a mega flop once it became the running joke in the game world. They should have just let it remain vaporware. We have much, much better games now, like Halo, COD, etc. The world does not need Duke Nukem anymore.

I disagree.  The world needs games that don't take themselves seriously.

I'm honestly not surprised because the trailers made the game seem horrible, but obviously I shouldn't judge the game off of trailers, yet the reviews definitely shed some light on the true poopooness of the game.

The game plays like it an old school shooter and for that they rate it low.

For all you know it could end up being awesome. Just ignore the scores.

It actually doesn't though.  Regenerating health and a weapon limit..  Resulting in the level design for whole the game being tuned around a player with regenerating health a weapon limit.  It does not play like old school shooters.

The shooting/movement mechanics and enemies still feel like an older arcade shooter though and the difficulty is kept at a decent level and drains your health a lot more than most shooters today. Some of the level design is also reminiscent of Half-Life (which is a little strange for Duke Nukem).

Whatever happened to those games.

The reality of Duke is this.  If it is going to follow the basic pattern of modern FPS titles, with limited weapons and health regeneration, BUT also decides it is going to be old school shooting FPS style, it will make NO camp happy out there and the game is destined to fail.  No amount of Duke charm is going to offset this at all.

Free Radical went under, thanks to that PS3 game, what was it- haze?  Free Radical made the Timesplitters games, the best FPS series out there.
