Kresnik, it's not like they didn't have a platform where they could use features not found in console games. I think there are several titles that are on Vita that wouldn't exist on the PSP, so in that regard, I think it's a mild success.

Sorry, I don't quite understand what you're saying here?

I think that was just bluster for the shoehorned-in features during the games they released in the first year.  Uncharted: Golden Abyss could've existed on consoles (or PSP), for example, just without the touch screen stuff (which doesn't really add all that much to the experience).

The only games I think which truly made use of Vita's features were LBP and Tearaway, one of which is already being ported to PS4 somehow.  Everything else could've run on PSP, just at a less powerful level.

I don't think so, PS Vita has a lot Shooters (Killzone Mercenary, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Resistance: Burning Skies, Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified...). How do you want to play shooters on PSP? PSP has only one analog stick and PS Vita has two analog sticks. This is a huge difference between both imo.

Fair point on the FPS'.  Bend managed to get their shooters running on PSP, though (Syphon Filter; Resistance etc.) so I see no reason they could've have made Uncharted happen.

But that's kind of besides the point here.  They were saying that the Vita allows them to produce games with features not found in console games.  FPS' don't fit that description at all.

Something cool to me atleast. Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel on Vita is #1 on Amazon for Vita in Canada, thought that would be persona. Also #16 in Computers and Video Games :) not too shabby.

Weren't Just Add Water supposed to announce something for Vita today?  It's the end of the working day in the UK and they haven't put anything on their twitter.

Anyway, that composer backtracked on the Final Fantasy XII remake comment... but in doing so, pretty much confirmed that a remaster is happening (I hope they pick Vita as a platform):

"Dear friends,

In response to comments posted by fans, I want to rectify a statement made from the stage Saturday night at our Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY concert in Pittsburgh.

Following conversations with composer Hitoshi Sakimoto regarding new concert arrangements of music from FINAL FANTASY XII, regrettably, the term ‘remake’ was used in error during one of the announcements that took place from the stage during the concert.

We sincerely regret any confusion this has caused.

Also, I tweeted to Gio Corsi that I appreciate his team porting Borderlands & Resident Evil to Vita, and I hope there was more to come in future, and he favourited my Tweet:

Hopefully because there is more to come in future!

There are several games that use the touch screen and rear touch pad. While you could do things to make it work on a controller, that's not the point. They made games and made the platform open for 3rd parties to utilize those features. I don't think you should discount some of the smaller titles like Dokuro or Murasaki Baby.

Final Fantasy XII HD Remaster would be fantastic on PS Vita!!!
Final Fantasy X / X2 HD Remaster showed how great Final Fantasy works on PS Vita!

The team of Gio Corsi made Borderlands & Resident Evil on PS Vita? Interesting.
Hope to see more home console ports from them on PS Vita!

Also, I know this is a depressing thing to be posting, but I stumbled across this interview with Yoshida today and it made me laugh:

What would you say is the most important thing Sony learned from the original PSP?

There are many lessons we have learned, but if you ask me to pick one lesson… Before the launch, as far as the hardware goes we didn’t put enough resources in the hardware to allow us to develop games that are unique to the PSP compared to home consoles. We had many products on PSP, but most of these games like God of War [Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta] came from the console. Basically, you can play a bigger, better version of these titles on PS3. So pre-launch of PSP we were too happy with having the basic capability of PS2-class games to play on PSP, in terms of the screen and CPU/GPU. But after the launch and a few years time, just having pretty graphics isn’t enough. Especially when you can play a bigger, better game on home consoles. That’s the one big lesson when we designed the PS Vita. Because it is portable and because it’s a new technological development, we can put a touchscreen, touchpad, cameras, GPS, or 3G capabilities. We made sure that developers will be able to make use of these features that are unique to portable systems, so that with games we can continue to produce something very exciting that you cannot find on games on home console. So that’s one lesson.

The second lesson comes post-launch of the PSP. Because we shifted development resources to the PS3 launch, we kind of stopped supporting PSP games post-launch. That was a big mistake, because we didn’t realize that third-party developers were doing the same because they were working on the new launch of software on the PS3, Nintendo Wii, and Xbox 360 as well. So going into the PS Vita, because it’s our second time, we are making sure that we won’t make the same mistakes, meaning that we’ll continue to support PS Vita with a stream of good titles through release. So I pick these two as the lessons learned from PSP. I would also say that security and piracy was a problem with the PSP as well, and that will be fortified with PS Vita.

So basically, the two biggest mistakes they made with the PSP were - it got too many home-console esque games, and didn't get enough post-launch support from Sony, and they intend to rectify that with Vita.

Three years down the line, and Vita gets absolutely bugger all support from Sony.  The only major title releasing this year from Sony is a port of a PS3/PS4 game.  The only major titles last year were Freedom Wars (new IP, fair enough) with console-esque production values; and Borderlands 2... a port of a PS3 game.

Shows what a load of hot air Yoshida was spouting at Vita's launch.

Really funny thing... really funny.. being that's THE TWO BIGGEST MISTAKE they did with the Vita -.- but this time magnified by 100x!! Damn Yoshida!

And about those "unique" features of Vita.. they got the same problem that Nintendo with WiiU's gamepad.. they didn't know how to make games using all those features and were waiting for third aprties to do it.. then NextGen consoles came... and they shifted for those...

makes me wonder if there's a third portable PlayStation, would happen this again? Probably, YES.
